Land Rover LR3 - Thoughts?

Any thoughts on the Land Rover LR3 as far as reliability/enjoyability? Smart buy or foolish purchase? Same problems as previous generation Land Rovers?

My parents test drove it, and really disliked it. Not really sure why. They picked out the '07 MDX for my mom.

there was a thread on this. In a nutshell, reliabilty of LR across the board sucks gigantic c#ck and the LR3 is more reliable than the previous generation Disco, but the car looks like a minivan and very, ver yplasticky inside. I "test" drove one for about 3 months and it was underwhelming for the price and the alternatives out there.

My sister's boyfriend has one and I hate it. I'm 6'4" and the front seat doesn't go back far enough that my knees don't touch the dash. I've never been in another car that had that problem in the front seat.

didn't ed say the maintenance on LR's was horrible? I'd get something else.

Oh Boy! I recently purchased an 05 LR3, CPO. I love it. Every car has relliability issues, and while I think the car might be a bit to techonologically advanced for its own good, I do enjoy driving it and have not had major problems. Gas mileage, might as well buy a Expedition. I am 6"2 and do not have a problem fitting in, and it has incredible cargo space as well. It also came with the 3rd row seating, and I must say it is rather comfortable. Would I want to drive cross country back there? No, but iit it will suffice for an extended period. My adivce is to buy CPO if you can, that way you can let the dealer fix the kinks with no out of pocket. Paging Dr. Ed...Dr. Ed please report to the bash the Land Rover thread.

Hey, I've had one of each model, an my favorite car to this day is the Disco but you just can't overlook the issues those cars have and the fact that pretty much every issue starts at $1000 and can quickly get into the $4-5000 range. With the LR3, I did not have it long enough to know about reliabilty but with the relatively tame styling, they got away from what made Land Rover, Land Rover

For about the same price, get a Lexus GX470 for good reliability. If you want some speed in a mid-size luxury SUV, we just test drove the FX45 by Infiniti (that's the V8 model) for my wife. I'd not want to take it off-road on more than a dirt road, but it corners like it's on rails. Under 60k so in the same ballpark as a well equipped LR3 too.

In the UK the latest Discovery has far better reliability statistics than previous generations.

Top Gear reviewed the LR3 and didn't love it. Very heavy for its size and not overly spacious. I think LR has about GM reliability, but agree that there's something about them that alot of Japanese makes don't have. If you're looking for reliability, I would go with the LX-470. If you want a LR, get one, but be prepared to be a frequent visitor to the repair shop.

I should say that I was in the pasenger seat when my knees touched. I haven't tried driving.

It amazes me that a car finishing year after year after year in the bottom 3 of the JD Power rankings continues to fetch such high prices. Their quality IMPROVED after FORD bought them FFS. I owned one and it was a POS.

from an aesthetics standpoint, i say bring back the Disco.

RR is made by Ford. They're pieces of shit. Yes, I'm making a direct connection. Unfortunate, because I love the RR Sport, and was going to buy it. I've heard the same, if not worse things about the LR3.
