8.5 Alden/Shell Cordovan burgundy monks - Page 2

I have a pair and they are awesome. The slightly narrower strap is unique, distinct from most european styles. Mine look almost black indoors, but the red shines through in the sunlight. Here is cool link about them: http://www.natoriya.jp/cgis/goodslis...ds_id=00000029

Cool.. wtf does it say lol. I like the pics. Now I see what people are talking about with the waviness of worn Cordovan. I'm disappointed, it looks like a turd.. Maybe I won't get the Alden Cordovan boots after all.

Thanks LSeca, but I've decided to keep them for myself edit: Homer, I think the pictures represent an over-exaggeration of the "ripples" of shell cordovan. Look at McArthur's pictures on the "what footwear are you wearing today" thread at the trad forum for some better examples. I would say the ripples are much less pronounced.

Glad you've decided to keep them, very nice shoes.

for the life of me I just can't fathom this obsession about not having creases on the vamp.

You don't want crease, then don't wear your shoe.

While I agree, I do find the ripples in some of the pictures a little much. I think that this pair would look fine with a shoe tree in it, though. Most of the pictures, though, are quite porn-worthy:

The Alden monk is growing on me. I used to be put off by the narrower strap, but I'm starting to accept it.

For me, it was the buckle. It seemed a little too hefty for me originally, especially in comparison to the C&J monk sold at Brooks Brothers. I think, though, that the Alden monk is an incredibly nice shoe that can age pretty gracefully (if you use shoe trees).
