He does do so. Watch the trailer, and you'll see him in a later/earlier part of that scene with a shotgun.

Most all of the "extras" that one can find on tweed jackets have their origin in shooting. Bellows pockets are for shells, elbow patches decrease wear when shooting from a supported or prone position (apparently people do still stalk deer in tweed suits, I saw a photoessay about this in the Double Gun Journal), and shoulder patches prevent snags and wear from shouldering a gun (I guess they do provide a tiny bit of recoil reduction as well.)
