How to wear a long scarf + peacoat

Just wondering what combinations you guys use to wear a longer scarf with a classic peacoat. Do you normally loop it around your neck and tuck in the ends under the coat or let them hang out the front? I know its a lame question but when I leave the scarf ends dangling in front of my coat it looks a bit overdone, but if I leave them underneath it looks bulky..

i agree that in general, the hanging out look is very tacky looking. seems like they only do that in movies. you should tuck it underneath, but try a lighter/thinner scarf so it won't look so bulky.

Underneath, of course, where it will do most good in keeping the vitals warm. If the scarf is long enough, however, the ends may protrude from under the bottom of the coat, which looks kind of weird.

With a normal length scarf I wrap it so one end is on my back, around my neck then down the front. That way it doesn't take up too much room in the front.

I can't imagine anything more anathema to being stylish than spending more than a nanosecond plotting out and executing your scarf wrap.

I don't like leaving the scarf hanging because when I walk the ends flap around and it gets annoying. Just get a thin scarf and tuck it.

Go round neck twice (or thrice, depending on length of scarf) so as to leave just enough to tie a knot and have the two ends sticking out at an angle next to the neck wrap part. Depends on the look you're after but this can look a touch rakish. If you prefer the neat and tidy approach: once round neck and an over-the-top knot before running the two long ends down the front - inside or out- for extra warmth...

You need pictures!!!! Check out "The Sartorialist" and do searches (e.g. scarf, scarves). On the same site visit Men New York, Men Paris, and Men Milan.

does anyone wear the scarf under the collar on the outside of the pea coat? I like that look on longer coats and wanted to hear opinions about that on a pea coat

I store my scarves there on any coat when I go inside or take it off, or when it warms up. To just do it all the time for decoration wouldn't look right to me though.

i keep it underneath where it serves its purpose ... depending on cooler weather, wrap it around the neck and still keep it underneath. NOBD from WAYWN has some good pics of his hanging outside ... i might try it out when it gets cooler, but for now i think it should serve its purpose, keeping the neck and chest warm.

Poor picture from the weekend ... after 5 hours unexpected layover in Newark:

I do this weird scarf wrap that I learned in Leon a few months back. It bascially gives a huge front knot.

I sometimes tie a FIH knot with one of my thinner scarves. Does anyone else do this?
