I think it may be a mistake to compare Weston with EG/Lobb strictly on the latter's terms--i.e., determining whether Weston can do EG as well as EG or Lobb as well as Lobb. That's not what Weston is all about. Weston shoes have their own unique aesthetic. So one might ask whether EG can do a Weston as well as Weston. For example, there really isn't anything in either the EG or Lobb lineup that compares with the Weston Hunt Derby. EG and Lobb just don't do that style or aesthetic. Some people like the Weston aesthetic; some don't. However, some other things are clear about Weston: their leathers are absolutely topnotch (many forumers here and on other forums have expressed this opinion), and their construction is as rugged and fine as anything you'll see from EG or Lobb. In addition, there is more hand work on at least a few of their models than you'll see on EG or Lobb. I have several pairs of both EGs and Lobbs and also have the Weston Hunt Derby. The HD is as different as it can get from EG/Lobb, and is one of my all-time favorite shoes. I also had the Weston Golf--another very well-made shoe--but couldn't get it to fit properly and sold it to a fellow forumer. I guess some shoe enthusiasts like to build up a collection reflecting just a certain style and aesthetic, but I'm more catholic in my tastes and like to include as many different styles and traditions as possible--just as long as they are of high quality, look good on my feet (to my eye anyway), and fit well.
