I used to think the same way. Then, when I started planning out months ahead of time what I needed to accomplish, I saw gains that I had never seen before. To me, it's impossible to judge successes and failures if you just do whatever you feel like that day in the gym.

Point taken. For now I'll stick to mixing together different training techniques, as I feel there're still room for growth and my body can be more forgiving than most. Will consider switching to more traditional method somewhere down the road though.
