i went vegterian for 6 weeks, now i've never been a big guy i was about 160 prior to doing it, when i weighed myself i was 135 pounds. i notice it appered my head was getting big but i didnt think i lost that much weight.

what are some things you could eat to maintain weight? thats HEALTHY, because CREATINE is not!

lots of avocados, nuts, beans and dark chocolate.

but after seeing your avatar, i lost my appetite for all of those things.

Creatine isn't going to put 25 lbs. back on you, however unhealthy it is, which it isn't--at all.

My vegetarian friends have kept their weight up by eating alot of candy. They replaced any muscle they had with fat, but their weight stayed up.

If you feel sorry for animals, fight hand-to-paw with a lion. If you win, you can eat him without remorse. If he wins, he eats you. It's a great way to get your cardio in, too.

Losing 25 lbs in 6 weeks is scary -- are you sure that's right? Be sure you get protein from other sources like beans, eggs, milk, cheese, nuts, etc.

I've seen it before. When a buddy's girlfriend went vegan after being vegetarian, she lost probably 20 lbs. right away, because she couldn't eat anything anymore. Then, when she discovered candy doesn't contain animal products, she gained it right back--and then some-- and then some. It drives me nuts when cute girls get fat.

Do you exercise/work out at all? Are you looking to just put on weight or gain muscle? Because a lot of veg's lose a lot of muscle due to a lack of fats/proteins, and can gain WEIGHT but still be sickly from no MUSCLE.

Have you considered supplements, such as maybe whey protein?

It's a fallacy to think that the only way for a creature to build and maintain muscle is to eat the flesh of another creature. Have you ever stood next to a horse (especially a draft horse like a Clydesdale or Percheron) and seen/felt the incredible muscle mass and definition on those things? Horses are extremely powerful creatures (hence the term we still use today - "horsepower"), and I can assure you that their power/strength doesn't come from a diet of chicken breasts and steaks. Most big meat eaters I know only have one type of muscle -- table muscle.

Meat will cure you of your vegetarian ails. you really and truly are made to eat meat from land animals, birds, bugs, and fish, the Human body is woefully inadequate when it comes to eating veggies.

I became vegetarian about 2 years ago and I have not gained or lost weight at all. Granted I don't eat wildly healthy and never have, but to think that eating meat builds muscle is ridiculous. Want to gain weight? Eat a cheese pizza, or two boxes of macaroni and cheese, or 7 bean burritos, or some vegetarian lasagna, or a baked potato with a shitload of sour cream and butter. Better yet, try some vegetarian "meat," that shit is so loaded with preservatives and calories you'll weigh 210 in no time. Vegetarian doesn't mean you eat nothing but vegetables.

By itself, no, but it does help a lot. Ever heard of complete protein and creatine, both of which abundant in meat while sorely lacking in veggie?

Fixed.

Being vegetarian is the polar opposite of being manly. If you want to be a vegetarian, you might as well be prepared to surrender your balls.

Thank JESUS human beings have the same diet, metabolism, lifestyle, body composition, and genetic makeup as horses!

I have nothing against a person not eating meat (and did not attempt to call out the OP), but the goddamn zealots that try to justify it to everyone as natural or superior are just as bad religious zealots.

First of all, a vegetarian can be as healthy as someone who eats meat. I've been a vegetarian for over 5 years now and I'm doing great. No, it's not the ideal diet for a body builder, but if you know how to cook and have a basic knowledge of nutrition, you should be able to get all of the protein you need. While it is true that meat products have all of the essential amino acids a human needs, you can achieve the same result by combining vegetable protein (ex: whole grains with beans/lentils). Also, dairy products and eggs (if you're not vegan) have complete protein. I don't preach to anyone. I do what I want and let others do the same. I feel better when I eat a vegetarian diet. My family, friends and girlfriend all eat meat and that's fine with me. I'm a slim guy, but I was the same back when I ate meat. I think I may actually have gained a few pounds in the last couple of years. Oh yeah, and I don't eat candy. If you're losing weight when you eat a vegetarian diet, especially at the alarmingly rapid rate that the OP is, you should definitely go back to your old diet, read up on nutrition and try again later when you know what you're doing. Also, while eating meat can be healthy, most North Americans eat much more of it than they should, and that contributes to why there is so much obesity here, which is most definitely unhealthy. One last thing: xchen, how about you shut the fuck up.
