I recently took a pair of AE brandy-colored shoes to my cobbler to have them dyed burgundy/cordovan (reason = I stained them with pizza grease and unfortunately couldn't get it out). After his dye-job, they ended up a dark brown rather than burgundy, without even a hint of a burgundy. I actually really liked the color so didn't really complain and just let it go. Later, however, I did notice some brandy color still on the inside edges of the tongue. I assumed that before a cobbler dyes shoes, all the former color is stripped off - is this not true? I'm thinking he may have just dyed the shoes as is and the combo of the brandy original color/burgundy dye created the final dark brown color. I would just like to know the proper technique since I don't really want to be surprised by results in the future. By the way, he charged $20 if that helps....Thanks! MR
