I love the 90s too, like anything up-beat.

Lots and lots of Mahler in preparation for the symphony next weekend. I can't believe I never listened to his work before, it's gorgeous!

Mahler is very good, I also had a phase when I concentratedly consumed esp his symphonies, when I got hooked by the 1st and 6th but came to like the 3rd and finally was fond of the 9th.

The poet Arthur Schnitzler was seen walking in an awkward way behind Mahler on the Kärntnerstraße in Vienna. When he was asked about what he was doing he said 'I wanted to see what it felt like to retrace the footsteps of a genius'...

Hipster bullshit warning, but after I see Mahler's 9th this Friday, I'll be heading to see Andrew Bird in Santa Cruz next month. Which led to a night of Bird, Lumineers, Mountain Goats, Of Monsters and Men, and Fleet Foxes.

I warned you it would be hipster bullshit.

Ha, yes a bit of namedropping going on there, but sounds like a great show... Though thanks to this thread I will be checking out Mahler, no clue who this is..

Seriously, if you have never heard the music of Gustav Mahler, you are in for an "experience". I love Leonard Bernstein's appraisal of Mahler's 9th Symphony: "It is terrifying, and paralyzing, as the strands of sound disintegrate ... in ceasing, we lose it all. But in letting go, we have gained everything."

Re Mahler I have 15 recordings of the 2nd Symphony, The Resurrection and last saw it preformed at the Opera House in Sydney in 2011.

Elvis Costello & the Roots Wise Up Ghost, best thing he has done in years.
