^^ Are you trying to get idfnl all riled up again?

If everybody posted music as good as the stuff I post, then no one would have any cause for anger in this thread.
Here's an example:

I post some things that a lot of you probably don't care for at all, but...

I must admit, they've been sucking the life out of this thread for some time now. Their other posts are just fine, I agree, but we don't need a rundown of your favorite Top 40 mainstream radio hits on a daily basis.

Kanye West? Somebody just kill that guy already.

You actually post Stockhausen quite frequently. You're one of the few posters here who actually contribute work of at least some merit. Then you drop a big, stinky kiss track here and there and stink up the elevator.

Have you ever read Stockhausen on Music?

^^ KISS is wonderful if you don't expect them to be something they aren't. They're not Emerson, Lake, and Palmer or anything, but they're great at what they do.

I have read Stockhausen on Music, but it's probably been ten years now. Stockhausen's music was love at first hearing for me. I am still a big fan of his work, even though it covers such a wide range.

Nah, I'm not into athletic, virtuosic prog like ELP at all. I think that prog and fusion are too often associated with shitty bands like that, though. There's a world of excellent prog and fusion that seems to still be lost in relative obscurity. I'll post some gems later.

I know what you mean, though. A lot of people who understand my taste in music don't understand why I love The Stranglers. The truth is, as long as it is honest, it is good.

Exactly. Its like filling up the threads in Men's Clothing with the latest from K Mart. Minus a few good recent posts, this thread has gotten pretty shitty.

I went through a period where I made a genuine, good-faith effort to enjoy prog and fusion. (Not suggesting they're the same, of course.) Since I enjoy complex music, I thought I should enjoy that. But it always struck me that rock music should rock, and both prog and fusion seemed like ersatz rock to me. That's probably not fair, but I just don't enjoy it.

Lester Bangs was a moron and a typical hack of American music journalism. Not everything has to be rock and not everything has to be stupid to be honest.

I generally don't ever like rock music. I tend to like compositional music, which includes electronic. I tend to listen to a lot of ambient, drone, and electronic composition in general these days, though I find the vast majority of it stupid and poorly executed. That which I find to be excellent stands firmly outside of the pack. I think, just like anything else, that which is good is not dogmatic in its approach to style. Jazz purists are a good example of people who try to bully people with dogma and, though journalism, are killing a form they claim to love. Rock journalism has done the same.

Good prog/fusion/related sampler:

Hadn't listened to this album in many years but all of a sudden I can't listen to it enough.
