Any Dyson vacuum owners on the board?

I borrowed my sister in law's Dyson Animal vac was was impressed with how much it picked up. My wife and I are thinking of getting one as we are tired of the pricey $15 for 5 bags for our Miele Blue Moon.

Anyone have any experience with this vacuum? Do you like it? Know anyone else who likes it?

Thanks for the feedback...

Here is a good price: http://www.woot.com/ However, this expires midnight central time, or when the vac is sold out. They are normally $500 at Amazon, with a $700+ full retail price.

Wow, that is pretty cheap. How good are the refurbished units though? I have a DC07 (cheapest model) and I like it a lot. I have very thick carpet in my condo and it does a great job. However, the performance on hard floors is so-so. Either get a Dyson or get a regular bag vacuum, the "filter" bagless types suck IMO. Also, the only difference between the regular and "Animal" versions is a couple of attachments (which you can also buy separately). The ball (DC15) seemed much easier to move around, but I just couldn't justify the extra $200 at the time I bought mine.

I have owned one for about three and a half years and have been very pleased. The Dyson definitely works better than any vacuum cleaner we have ever tried, and there have been no problems whatsoever with it. Unlike the above poster, I have found the Dyson's performance on hard floors to be just as good as on carpet.

I have the DC15, bought from Sears (definitely not the best price available). It works very well. When I bought my house - a recent build - I had the carpets professionally cleaned because the previous owners had indoor pets. I was amazed at how much pet hair came out of the carpet later when I used the Dyson - what the professionals were unable to clean.

My two complaints are (1) it's pretty heavy and (2) the attachments and hose "snap" in place VERY EASILY.... which is good for now, but I have a feeling they won't hold up well to constant use (IMO).

Great feedback, thanks.

I found out today that Bed Bath & Beyond does a 20% off coupon periodically.

Yes, that is where I bought my Dyson, and indeed, I just received another 20%-off postcard in the mail the other day from BBB.

Check the fine print on the coupon. They list exceptions for items the coupon is not valid for; Dyson is usually one of them.

Consumer reports rated many other vacuums above the Dyson that were also much less expensive.

Why anyone would want to clean a bagless vac is beyond me.

I have found CR to be very poor judges of quality in vacuums. I've bought the Kenmores and others they recommended in the past and the performance just wasn't there. Miele was the first vac I was happy with but I've borrowed a Dyson and it picks up stuff the Miele misses. The Miele is built like a tank and much better than the dyson but the cyclone action is important. The Miele gets bogged down by dirt as the bag fills. Plus, we may need another vac so we can stop hauling it up and down the stairs.

CR is even more disasterous in the audio and HT area. Caveat Emptor.

Consumer Reports, generally, should be taken with a grain of salt.

Not having to deal with the bag is a great convenience. We like ours.

Also used to have Miele and we are now on our second Dyson. The old one did not wear out but after a hard life a few of the attachments were broken. It is still doing work in the barn. We thought it good enough to buy one again. Both were the smallest ones we could get I do not recollect the part numbers.

I like the Dyson. My complaint is that it can be a little too powerful. Vacuuming an area rug can be difficult as the vacuum pulls it off the floor and the machine starts to howl. I have to put my foot down next to the area that I am vacuuming to keep it from being gobbled up whole. And it can be tedious to use the attachments, you know, unsheathing it, flipping it around, etc. And yes, it is a heavy monster. That said, it is a fun machine. And it sucks great!

step 1: remove canister from vacuum cleaner.
step 2: put trash bag around bottom of canister.
step 3: pull release.
step 4: put canister back on vacuum cleaner.

what's the big deal?
