Honestly, what is team spirit, or better yet, "team-work"? It's for people with no personality.

Now, I can understand the value of team-work in military and defense (police, firefighters) functions, but in civilian life, it's inevitably passive-aggressive dullards and suburban Napoleons with nothing to show for as Team Leader.

When I was growing up I hated teams and groups. I refused to put myself into "groups" whenever the teacher instructed us so; and when I was eventually forced into some despicable entity, I never did anything save for what I wanted to do which was usually being idle and browsing a book I had specifically brought for that express purpose. Besides, the group's ideas were usually inane and the people even more inane--somewhere they must have read that prissy overachieving was the key to success. Maybe it is in the mainstream world.

Team-work and team-spirit are two steps away from Communism, mass trends, slogans, and collective hysteria.

I agree. I hate team spirit and I hate the "fun" activities that have sometimes been forced upon me in team-based endeavors. Btw, LK, what were you forced into that caused this outburst?

Team spirit makes me want to puke. And leadership, too.

No, Conne. A team player, is gay. Someone who hates team spirit, by logical extrapolation, is not a team player. Thus, you're not gay if you don't like team spirit. It's no wonder that you're a little confused.

You can be a good team player, which I am, without wanting to participate in whatever stupid activities someone comes up with in a poor attempt to bring team members closer together. FWIW, in group projects I've almost always been the leader because i'm efficient and can get things done. Team activities are akin to circle jerking imo. I don't need to feel like I'm best friends with everyone to get work done.

While you may dislike so-called teamwork LK, there are many complex tasks that our modern societies could not accomplish as efficiently without coordination between many highly skilled and specialized individuals that need to work in teams, groups... whatever you want to call them. An individual's ability to collaborate well with others is therefore an important skill for many professionals today.

Although you can probably find an occupation that does not require you to interact with others in any meaningful way, there is help for people like you if you wish to get better.

Well said. Most corporations are run like socialist collectives, which explains the emphasis on hiring "team players" by many employers.

Are you people nuts? Without teamwork nothing would get done. I'm not saying complete equality within a team is productive - in fact I have never heard of that working. But teamwork, whether it be in a corporation, a basketball team, a heist, or hitting on girls in bars, can always create an outcome superior to what one person could create. I mean this is self-evident, how could anyone deny it?

the power the might
to win this game tonight
and in defeat youll see that we cannot be beat

Montgomery Junior high schools cheer.

I cant remember the rest but I can still remember what Katrina Mitchell looked like in her cheerleader dress.

Haha...I think you guys are taking this more seriously that what it really is. Personally, I've had enough with the team player interview questions. If you're a competent worker, then you'll learn to work well with others. Those jerkoff questions they ask aren't going to determine who's qualified or not. They simply have a bias toward the jerkoffs who have studied and practice answering these questions who are actually lazy and irresponsible ***** when the time comes to actually do some work. I've seen plenty of this type in the finance courses I took in undergrad. No doubt many of them are now armed with MBA level answers to these jerkoff questions.

Well this thread had nothing to do with interviews. It had to do with actual teamwork.

I don't think anyone is arguing about the necessity of teams. It's the idiotic excercises some people make you do in a vain attempt to make you work better as a team. Those sorts of things are probably more prevalent in sales or marketing than finance or anything technical.
