I eat fast food once in a while, I drink on occasion. I've smoked maybe 2 cigarettes in my entire life and got high about 3-4x...the extent of my substance use.
Overall I would say I lead a pretty healthy lifestyle eventhough I'm not Ironman training right now.
However, I don't see the appeal in doing something that is proven harmful to your health, can cause throat/lung cancer, stains your teeth, gives you bad breath, often times gives you a hacking cough, makes you stink and typically annoyings 90% of the people around you.

I've no interest in 90% of people so whether or not one smokes in front of them is my prerogative. I've no interest in taking flak from some raggedy-assed person in cheap clothing. I think people today are patently afraid of showing themselves. They're afraid of unabashed luxury ( I'm not talking about cheap logoed goods), of smoking, of indulgence. It's all the political correctness police with their notion that everybody is equal and that one shouldn't one-up the other because it's elitist. It's about "stealth-wealth" or safe, unoffensive luxury goods like a logo purse or unassuming black clothes. All men are created equal. All men, that is, who possess umbrellas.

I've always thought smoking looked attractive with the right people. I don't smoke because of health issues. I choose not to because I don't like the smell, nor do I want a weak pallet.

This world needs more smokers in movies.

Here's my Dupont - the "ping" is underwhelming, and I've had to return it for repairs three times altogether. A few old well-worn Ronsons. They're normally around $10 in flea-markets here: Here's a Dunhill pipe tool and a (probably) Russian cigarette holder, both silver:

Here's my Dupont lighter. Like Lucky Strike's, the ping is also underwhelming, but perhaps it's due to the fact it's a Line 1 which apparently doesn't feature the ping.

The case is an English tortoise-shell cigarette case from the Edwardian era.

Here is my recently refurbished '60s Dunhill Rollagas: It goes with the circa 1925 English sterling and shagreen case.

This is the sterling Cartier lighter I used to have: Mine had a monogram on the square part though.

LK, you seem to be a connoisseur of the lighter.

Personally, I had to give up the seductive pastime through lack of finances; at one point I was getting through two disposables a day.

Smoking is, in fact, one of the most stylish things one can do because it represents the abandonment of base concerns (health, expense, etc.) in favor of purely aesthetic/sensual rewards (the smell and taste, the beautiful complex systems graphed by the wisps of the smoke, and the stimulant rush of nicotine.)

I've always loved how he had the mannerisms and persona of a fallen idealist, sort of like Chandler's Marlowe. There was also that undercurrent of contempt.
