yes the plum would be lovely as a cap toe Balmoral.

Thanks. This was at the end of the Golden age when Meermin pretty much gave you free reign in terms of options. I sketched out the brogue pattern idea for the throat and tongue edge of the boot

I'm not sure if they source from the same tannery or not. Doubt it.

Pretty sure they both use Ilcea; Meermin just use a lot more of the hide than JL.
On another note: Someone who can fit into Vil last?! Did you lose some toes? :D

Hahaha it was much tighter than I expected. at least when first putting on the boot. In retrospect I should've gone Park or New Rey. I sized up .5 in the Vil

Soliciting advice from the pros (again). Looking for a wingtip boot. considering the C&J Skye and the Alden Wingtip on the Barrie Last. I currently have the AE Daltons which IMO are too narrow and a bit too dressy for jeans. I'm usually in casual clothing ,mostly jeans so thought the fuller and more substantial Alden would look good. I can't tell if the Skye is too slim/svelt to be worn this way- If anyone has any experience with one or both could you please help a boot brother out?

Thank in advance

Any preference re soles? Also, does price matter to you or do you figure you can get the Skyes on sale for around the price of the Aldens?

Quality of the Skyes is superb but you pay more and I can't recall if they are on leather or Dainite (or if there is an option). They are a bit dressier but could work with denim. Alden's Barrie wingtip is a beauty and your instinct is right that it will look superb with denim - it's basically made to be paired with denim, though it can be dressed up pretty easily. Adding in the possibility of getting commando soles (something I personally would want in a casual boot like this), the Alden seems like a great choice.

Thanks Budapest

Going for leather soles. I have too many boots with rubber soles as is ;)

Also - the Skye's in brown - I can only find them from Crockett and Jones stores, and no way they're ever on sale.. But they look awesome..

How's everyone's experience with button boots, such as the ones from Enzo Bonafe?

Are the buttons a huge hassle to get in and out off?

I'm asking because when i was trying on a pair, the sales assistant had to use a special device to button them up, and it seemed quite a struggle to unbutton.

Was it because they were brand new, and they were also taking extra care to not damage the shoes?

I ended up letting the boots go because of that reason.

Button boots could be the worst shoe idea ever. And that's simply from a practical standpoint. Ugly as hell too.

I have a pair of button boots that should be delivered very soon. I like the look - something different. They are definitely not for everyone. Ill report back when they come in.

Edit: I forgot my exact order but something like tan museum calf and fox suede shaft.

Can't say i agree with you, Beach Bum, i'm so in love when them!!

Prefer them over their laced counterparts. Though i gotta agree with the impracticality.

But hey, at this price point, the 'practical' ship has already sailed.

Hope to hear back from you, NewYawker! And congrats~!!

Disagree, I think button boots look cool.

However I do often wonder how hard it is to put them on and take them off with the buttons. Also more importantly since your not using laces or an adjustable strap of some kind how good a fit are you actually able to achieve. These doubts are some of the reasons I didn't move forward with making an purchase.

I have 2 pair of button boots, one black/gray and one brown. They take some time to get on and off, and you do need a button hook. As for fit, you are correct they cannot be tightened, so you have to make sure you get your correct size.
