Any one have experience with house/indoor plants?

I was looking at getting a palm plant and putting it in a nice container, for my room for an open house on Sunday.

I saw conflicting reports on them, but really like how one would make my room look--

Apparently indoor plants bring like nasty bugs and mites, and the plants yellow from not getting enough light anyway...

I don't want an ugly dirty thing bringing in bugs in to my room...

Bugs and mites are not likely if you buy the plant from an indoor greenhouse and re-pot it into a planter with potting soil. Most houseplants do OK with indirect light, but if you keep your curtains/blinds closed all day every day then you should be shopping for fake plants.

Plants, particularly indoor ones, terrify me.

I sometimes find plants more endearing than people.

I like the idea of a cactus garden. It seems particularly chic and unwholesome in combination with say, a Beaux-Arts mansion.

I've had plants for years and I've never had any bugs. When it comes to health the key is choosing plants that will thrive in your individual environment.

I have a snake plant that is very easy to maintain and doesn't require alot of sunlight to survive.
