Paul Bracq designed the E24 and the BMW Turbo, which became the M1; not sure if Bracq was involved with the 3.0/2800 (E9) series. Bracq is also credited as a collaborator for the MB 190 and 230 SL series, and the Peugeot 205/305/405 series. Boy, if I could find one and afford it, I'd jump on an E9 in Cirrus Blau..........a classic combination.

Hows the reliability on this? My boss from my last job used to have the M version and it had lots of problems, was a real pain finding parts too. He had to get exhaust and suspension work done amongst other things and by the time he was done it was over $25K.

It does. A racist one

You are a very sensitive individual, although luckily not in your sense of smell. Who mentioned South Africans, South Asians, or any race for that matter; certainly not I. Perhaps there something you are holding back that you want to tell the class? Being as I am half PR I doubt it would fit well and I am not really a big fan of white, although I do take a medium in most clothing.

Thanks for upgrading my status to racist idiot from idiot, you made my week. I'm going to make sure to share my badge with my family and friends. I love name calling, it is the true mark of a person who is "very intelligent", has a "great mind", and is well "thought-out".

Bracq also designed the Mercedes W111, W100 and W108 series, arguably the classic Mercedes silhouette with the large grille and stacked double headlights, lichtenheiten.

The 635 CSi is very reliable, the inline 6 engine is very robust and noted for its longevity, it goes several hundred thousand miles without a problem. The suspension and drivetrain components are also unremarkable and not too difficult to source. Typically, I get it tuned once a year - my engine is chipped and for an 18 year old car, it just needs routine replacement and maintenance. I use the car to drive 300 miles r/t from one office location to another couple-three times a month without incident. The car still pulls with gusto.

The M6 is an entirely different animal with a race bred M engine. Depending on the condition your boss purchased the car in, I'm not surprised to hear what he spent. The BMW OEM parts for the suspension and exhaust system can run $5k. Your boss might also be under the spell of the M6 stopping at nothing to acheive ownership of a relatively inexpensive racing bred car.

My wife's lease is coming due and we're trying to decide what vehicle she wants. After extensive test drives, we have it narrowed down to the Infiniti FX45 and the Acura MDX. She's ruled out the GX470 Lexus (didn't like the swing out tail gate and they force you to get the seven seat model and the seats stupidly fold up to the sides), has something against Mercedes in general, so there goes the M-class, and we ruled out other things like the LR3 or RR Sport, Caddy SRX, etc for things like reliability reputations and lack of service loaners (Caddy).

Anyone here own either vehicle and have opinions? The FX45 is certainly faster and better handling (0-60 in 6.3) but I think the MDX is a more practical vehicle, with more interior room, better shaped cargo area, and better visibility. I also think Honda puts out a better product than Nissan in terms of reliability. Nissan however has taken a cue from the Big 3 and has mastered the art of shoving powerful engines into lighter vehicles.

In my fantasy garage I would have a 250/280 SL and a '71 280 SE 3.5 coupe. Time for a retrospective of Bracq's work.

For me it depends on what car I'm having detailed. Though we are in the automobile business and have some great and reliable people working for us, I wouldn't trust the lads in the shop with the GT2 but otherwise I have the rest of the cars sent in.

I thought the 24 valve version was not available on the Jetta until later? Is that an aftermarket turbo?

That's a very beautiful Alfa Romero. Really like the wheels.

Acuras have their fair share of problems since they're more complicated than the average 4-banger Civic or Accord. The Infiniti probably has the better warranty.

The FX45 will be more fun to drive (car-like handling) since it's RWD or rear-biased AWD. The MDX is front-biased AWD system and will ride more like an SUV or minivan.

I agree MDX is more practical, but it's boring. Save some $$$ and get a RWD FX35 instead.

Love that 147 (the 159 is nice though, too). How was the handling (and torque steer) with the mods?
