Avoid buying "old man shoes"

Just something to bear in mind when buying new shoes-- avoiding "old man shoes" by selecting something a little bit different, with a great shape to them. In particular, having a great shape to the toe (instead of too rounded), etc. That's why I started buying Lobbs (at a discount, of course).

If you're looking for some good brown shoes for under $500, you may want to consider one of these-- I think all of them are extremely sharp, and the shape of the lasts make them look pretty damned elegant to me!

All from Paul Stuart:

Very nice shoes Foxx.

But if you started buying Lobbs (at a discount).

Why are you suggesting that we buy Paul Stuarts

Why not Lobbs at discount for us. Or are those all for you

I like old man shoes, and by that I mean the real old vintage old man shoes like american longwings. I do dislike middle of the road modern american styles, like the AE park avenue, for example. But then again there is a place for a plain dress shoe like the AE. You don't want to show up at a funeral with a $2000 antique burled mahogany pointed berlootey, trying to look sorry for their loss.

The pair on the far right really caught my eye in the catalogue.

Really great last shape and a pleasant touch of antiquing IMO.

Are these what you would call Old Man?

Does anyone know where these are made? Construction? I may need to take a walk down to PS tomorrow.

I spoke to a salesman about these a while back, and he said the line is meant to be a relatively affordable entry point for a younger audience. Made in Italy, though he didn't say by whom. They're not Goodyear welted, but I don't recall the construction method.

You and me both, although there's no PS near me. I particularly like the one on the far right (although the far left isn't bad either). For some reason, I just don't like bluchers. It's the flaps, the flaps!

I could wear these. Given all the overpriced shi'ite that's out there, $398 ain't too bad of a deal.
Provided you're willing to pay retail for anything
