I think we're misusing the word "essential" here. It's not necessary for young adults to be taking vitamins on a regular basis. Unless your diet is horrible, you probably wont see any difference taking vitamins every day. I think its just a little something you can add to promote a slightly healthier lifestyle. It's not essential for us to supplement protein with shakes, fish oil or anything else like that but it sure helps! The problem is a lot of people don't know what vitamins and minerals they actually need and eat the correct foods to get them. A multivitamin will help those who aren't in the know and want an easy solution. And for less than $1 a pill you may as well start now and if they're only effective in the long run then you'll have at least started early.
