Why I never hear something like: "... I was just browsing the new line-up of Ferraris, and there came the guy in a Kiton suit and bought the car just like that..."?

See - it doesn't really work. Lol! smile.gif

If you're going to take a position that you know to be unpopular, then man up an do so without all the passive-aggressive snickering. biggrin.gif  Lol.

Yes I do go heavy on lols and emojis. I tend to be laughing and smiling a lot on SF tho ( l o l smiley ) so who gives a fuck, am I right?

As for insulting, plausible deniability, passive-aggressive...I think you're reading waaay too much into one little reply. If "vanity purchase" was a broad swipe then I certainly includ(ed) myself. I freely admit I was making fun of the shoegame a bit. Don't be so sensitive.

Moreover, go back and read my lil throwaway joke again. It was a reply to Spex. Again, it was tongue-in-cheek. Hence, I ended it with a :P

Lol happy.gif lol smile.gif have a nice day too.

C'mon guys...
My experience is - this forum is about people who know better then cashing $$$ for clothes, and still looking better then 99% of stereotypical Toronto Lamborghini drivers.
Being an enthusiast, means you know how and where to snatch Attolini for the price of Samuelsohn... or to make that very same Samuelsohn or SuSu suit look like a $5000 suit.

At least this is how I see our little community here.

Hundo. Well stated!

Besides making a possibly provocative (clearly, lol) joke I suppose my side intent was to prompt a reexamination of the "just buy ____ for cheap and look fine" argument.

When folks debate which brand level is "necessary" this is usually the core topic really. Case by case per an individual's objective, of course.

5 Hazelton has another location which is their 'outlet'. Everything was 50% off, which is still high, especially for the er, pink sportcoats et al.

It's nearby, I wish I could remember exactly, I know it's not far from Four Seasons.

Rego may still have some J.M. Weston in stock. They were on sale last time I heard.

And did you check Woolridge Shoes? They're the only spot for Cheaney. They also carry Loake 1880, as does The Bay on Queen Street.

A couple of my former colleagues know the owner. I wish I remember the contents but it was an intriguing tale for sure...

If I recall, they're the sole boutique that carries Corthay. (I assume this is why Leatherfoot wound up not carrying them.) They also carried Bettanin and Venturi 1-2 years ago - they make a damn fine Norwegian welted shoe - but I'm not sure if they still carry it.

I think they became the only boutique to carry Santoni after Robert Jones stopped carrying it. (I feel like there's another store in the GTA that carries them but I can't think of where it is.) I didn't realize that they carry Bontoni, as I haven't been in there in a long time.

Does Via Cavour still carry Paolo Scafora and Scarpe di Bianco? I can't explain it, but I never feel inclined to go into that store or V Hazelton.

That's all I got.

Have you been into Rego recently? I remember reading about the sale before, but that was months ago. A nice black captoe oxford would be right up my alley.

I've also been to Woolridge, but if Dack's are made by Cheaney, Woolridge is overpriced.

Possibly the basement? That was what I was referring to when I mentioned 'expanded'. I walked in a few times to see stuff on sale. If there's another location I'll probably make a trip and visit.

Not the basement, it's a totally different location. I really wish I could recall exactly where it was.

Ha found it!

It's on Bay St. just north of Pusateri's. Here's a link in google street view.  You can see the Kiton, Borrelli, etc. in the window. I guess the address is about 1282 Bay St.

That's promising. I'll drop in when I have time. Not looking for any clothes, but maybe there are some nice deals around for footwear.

You don't have pink sport coat? C'mon... smile.gif

Don't worry, midlife crisis will come.

When I was there in June, they didn't have shoes, he said they'd be coming in the future.

Out of curiosity: does anybody know if Saks marked down their Corthays during sale season? I doubt it, but I figure it doesn't hurt to ask.

Yup, that's the one. I've walked by there a few times on the way to Working Title. (It's a cool store if you're into the SW&D side of clothing.) I always wondered what exactly it was.

Unfortunately, I tend to go to Working Title on Sundays so it's always closed when I walk by.

@Valkres: I haven't been there for over a year. By the time I found out that they carried Weston they didn't have my size - perhaps they never did - and I don't feel as inclined to check them out as my interests have leaned towards the SW&D side as of late.

@KaleidoscopicK Thanks for the info. I'll just go whenever I can and see if I can stomach the prices.

Maybe its just me, but I much prefer Uncle Otis to Working Title for the sales. They seem to have stuff on sale on deep discount most of the time. TNT and capsule are also close by too.

I love both stores about equally. Asides from being swell guys all around, they're nice to have a conversation with. I really value that aspect when shopping at the smaller boutiques.

Uncle Otis' final discounts do tend to be better than Working Title, although not by much from my observations. I'm more inclined to wait for sales at this point in my life but as is the case in most boutiques, there is usually only one piece in a size Small for most SKUs and I know that by playing the waiting game, there's a decent chance that it will by gone by sale season. This is especially the case during the Fall/Winter season, for obvious reasons. The pieces that I know will haunt my mind should I miss out on them are the ones I'll pay full price for, if the budget allows it.

The other detriment is that stores may not buy from that designer again if it only sells during sale season. I learned this the hard way with Stephan Schneider.

Most of Capsule's brands don't appeal to me, although I didn't know they carried Buddy until now. I mostly go to TNT to look at their Yohji/Junya/CdGH+ selection, as their Farfetch storefront doesn't show everything that is in-store.

I went by a number of times, I never saw Corthay on sale.
