I would understand if the dollar was great and they wanted us to be shopping in Canada.

I've been getting dinged lately as well. I figured the shit dollar means less people are shopping internationally, which in turn means they have more duty revenue to make up for,

The second penalty analogy is entirely correct. I recently got hit with $80 on my Loakes (cost $280).

You know what's funny. A pair of Alden calf shoes from the US at retail delivered to us is only about 200$ less than a Vass MTO from GTA.

Not sure I'm sold on the Carlos Santos yet. Will have to see a few pair come in first. I would likely do a derby or jodhpur.

There is a member here from Belgium that offers Vass proxy for $500 USD and I'm guessing it would not get hit either with duty.

Ship it to someone in the USA and then have them ship it to you.

I've done this many times with AE shoes. But I know my sizing in AE.

Seems to be a lot of shoe for the price. ~$382 CAD including FedEx shipping, so ~$500 CAD all in with duties and taxes

I haven't seen them in person but did a quick search for them. It would be interesting to see how they compare to Carmina in terms of leather and construction quality. Yes Carmina will be about $150 more but you do get closed channel soles. The top of the line Carlo Santos looks great though but those are $800 USD, at which price I'd be more inclined to get Vass MTO.

For those interested I have a bit more detail about Suitsupply MTM. As mentioned before Bobby is the liaison for the program (PM me if you would like his email). For context I'm after a summer weight suit so to get a tropical weight, open weave double twist from Ariston is around $1500; VBC is $1200. There is no charge for aesthetic details so the price is dependent on the fabric; in that regard it is better than Samuelsohn, who will charge for things like working buttonholes and side adjusters. The downside of the program is that they are unable to offer certain options found in the RTW collection, such as button cuff for trousers and fully unlined or buggy lined jackets. That is rather odd to me.

Not sure how many of you are aware of "Augustus Brine" it's mostly movie and TV clothing and a lot of junk BUT there are amazingly cheap and good pieces on occasion. Great customer service as well

I've been buying from these guys for about three years.....and thanks to them i have some great pieces from brands usually priced far outside of my comfort zone.....Hermes and Thom Browne shirts and Brioni and Etro slacks.  Received an Eton shirt and Etro and Zegna slacks last week, all effectively brand new, for around C$70. Have a Ralph Lauren purple label long sleeve polo on order now.  Service is great, quality is exactly as described on line and prices are ridiculously low.

Most of the stuff is unworn and if it has been lightly worn the description supplied clearly say so.

Stopped by Lost & Found just now. Bought some Alden Longwings Brown CXL.

Chris was so cool to deal with, best retail experience I have had in a long time.

And those black scotch grain Trickers are so sweet. I need a 7.5. They have 7 and 8 UK left.
Was my first trip in there and it was great. Can't wait to see what else comes in for spring.

Also nearby is Gravity Pope which I maintain has a great shoe selection and generally good staff and they're at 40% off now for sale stuff.
Their website has more to offer but unfortunately you have to prebuy to have something shipped in from another store and there's exchange only policy (ask me how I know this, lol)

Maybe I'm asking for too much but I find a lot of the local stores have very limited exchange policies (Nomad, Uncle Otis, Lost and Found, J+O, etc., etc.).

I get that they are small stores with small margins but I'd think it's pretty standard nowadays to have short window for returns (refund not just store credit). This is especially true when buying online from one of these establishments; measurements can only go so far.

I suppose but counter that much of their footwear can be found at Get Outside, and a few brands thrown in from Nomad or Haven. Not really sure of their direction but the guys from Lost and Found and I were chatting recently and felt that they were more geared towards becoming a full on womens boutique. But what do we know...I have indeed found some interesting pieces there at times, and there are some items on additional 40% worth looking at.

Agreed on the exchange policy, has caused me many occasions to abandon my cart.

Nature of the boutique business. I don't blame them one bit.
Do you know how hard it would be to run a designer clothing boutique, and carry the high dollar inventory from demanding brands?

I don't. But I can only imagine.

Considering going all out and ordering a pair of Vass MTO black captoes. No shoes really seem to fit my feet very well. I'm hoping MTO would rectify that. I spend a lot of time in black captoes, so I think it would be a worthwhile investment.

My only real concern is that I'm pretty junior. I'm client-facing, and I don't want the client to come in, notice my $1200 shoes, and assume that I'm way overpaid.

Have any of the junior professionals on here gotten a negative reaction when wearing something special like this? More senior folks, would you be put off by the junior wearing Vass?
