^^^ Stock turns over - you just have to go and see. I always check the sock options when I visit and almost always come out with a pair or two - usually OTC Pantherella.

I've purchased several pairs of Marcoliani's there, but most were mid calf and cotton. I did manage to score some usable colours though, such as wine, royal blue and black/grey stripe. Price was about $12-14.

I get mine from Soxfords. They're whimsical, I really enjoy them. They have been holding up well.

How do the Pantherella socks hold up to wear? I just received an order I placed a while ago for OTC wool socks.

Pretty good CBD for $15. Some for $20. Selection is limited but have a look. All my socks are Pantharella and Marciano (sp?). Going 5 years strong and my rotation of around 15 socks stoll look like new.

I have a pair that I've worn in a rotation of three with Canali and Paul Smith for close to three years. The Canali gave out first and the PS is about to give out just above the heal. The Pantherella is still going strong though it doesn't stay up as well as Canali and PS.

Not to hijack the thread but would you rather get a pair of John Lobb prestige or two pairs of C&J bench grade for the same price?

Very happy to hear that. I've seen a few mixed reviews and wasn't sure if it was the best decision but excited to start wearing them now.

I've seen some say that C&J benchgrade are close to the level of EG. I don't own C&J, but can say that EG age rather well, at least in my experience.

Assuming that C&J benchgrade are close to EG, I would prefer having 2 of those, as I don't personally see such a radical difference between JL and EG to justify the 2:1 ratio.

You would also have to consider which last fits better, and what type of shoes you're ultimately comparing.

Your EG always looks great every time I've seen them. Actually you partly inspired me to get fewer pairs of shoes but of higher quality though that's not to say the AE and Alden I had before weren't high quality.

Do you mean JL and C&J in reference to the 2:1 price difference? JL and EG are pretty similarly priced.

To give more context the JL is the City III in the 7000 last with Courchevel leather so a relatively dressed down oxford because of the texture of the leather.

For the same price I could get the Tetbury in suede and the Harrogate. I like the shape of the 348 last but the double monk style and storm welt of the Harrogate. If the Harrogate was on the 348 last I'd just get that.

Using the assumption that C&J Handgrade = EG in terms of quality and construction, it would also mean that the 2:1 C&J to JL applies to 2:1 EG to JL. This makes the point even stronger given that JL and EG are indeed close in price. Also keep in mind that the JL Prestige comes with shoe trees, something you would have to get separately for C&J or EG.

I personally like the 7000 last best from JL and am looking to get a JL 7000 last oxford. However, I would still personally prefer the 2 C&J given the same cost and the assumption that they are very similar in quality and construction to EG. I am not sure how valid that assumption is, perhaps someone could comment if they have had experience.

For the record the Tetbury and Harrogate are part of the bench grade collection and from what I gather the hand grade is nice but still not JL or EG level. You are looking at $1k for hand grade so at that point it might make more sense to spend a bit more and get EG or JL. If the Harrogate was on the 348 last as the Tetbury that would be the one pair I'd get as it would be sleek, tough, and versatile.

The JL 7000 last is very elegant and comfortable, at least for me. It makes for a very good oxford last.

Unless you have a full stable of high end shoes, 2 C&J.  If the Lobb was a Chapel it would make the decision a lot harder.

IMO the Tetbury is a beatiful chukka and its nice to see that its carried locally, and priced fairly.  I also like those DM's.  So this decision was an easy one for me.  Not a fan of the Lobbs your considering.

I don't plan to have a collection of high end shoes but 3-4 good pairs. In a way there is pleasure in having JL just because they are JL and how much they cost haha.

The Tetbury is beautiful. If the Harrogate was on the same 348 last that'd be the one I get. At the moment I'm leaning towards getting either the Tetbury or Harrogate but not both.

If I'm in the $1500 ballpark its going to be a St. Crispins MTO.   I'd probably go with a Tetbury over a Harrogate.  Chukkas are so versatile and comfortable.  But both are nice shoes and I'm sure will fit in the wardrobe nicely.
