I like the choice of two tone with the smooth and then grain calf in the same basic shade! that gives some great character.

I'm liking that sun medallion as well! i've never seen that before!

Just did some drawing to summarise and finalise my conversations with my Italian shoemaker regarding my next two pairs of black cap toe oxfords, a balmoral with diamond punched captoe, chiselled last and a classic plain captoe on a almond/rounded last :

For the almond /rounded last, he made plastic copies of my bespoke last and will now modify the toe shape:

Both will be made out of a Weinheimer Boxcalf

Was browsing the JL site today and noticed that they call some of their apron toe derbies "Norwegians," even if they don't have a split toe.

http://www.johnlobbltd.co.uk/catalogue/fullsize_images/Website_shoes_boots/Websiteshoes/Mensshoes/Navvycuts/Norwegiannavvycut/thumb.htm

Am I incorrect in thinking that most people use the term to only refer to split toes? And that, without the split toe seam, these would just be called apron toe derbies?

(cc'ing @bengal-stripe since he would likely know)
