BMW 6 series vs MB E diesel

Which one would you go for? What are the benefits of diesel? Slightly better mileage, correct?

Would you lease or finance or just outright buy? I can do either three; just not sure what makes more sense.

It has iDrive, no? What is the difference between the 5 and the 7?

unless i'm missing something here (and i don't think i am since i just double checked with the mb.com site), but why is this even a choice?

6 series all the way. (saw my first M6 on the road today...wow... )

Why is BMW winning the luxury car war? Can someone sum it up for me. Thanks, I will check out the site. I don't have a need to drive since I live in Manhattan but am considering moving out to Greenwich and am looking for a car now.

They're winning because they make the sportiest cars available in that segment. The styling of some models might turn people off, but whatever hesitation they have, it usually disappears when they drive the cars. It's all about how the car drives, man. If you're not a drivers' driver, then you'd probably be happy with the other ones. It also happens that BMW offers the most comprehensive maintenance program available of all the car manufacturers.

The E class is a 4door sedan, the BMW 6 series is a 2 door sports coupe/convertible.

So between those two, youd have to be picking what kind of car youre after, a sedan or a sports coupe.

Maybe you ment to compare the E class to the 5 series BMW, which would be the BMW competitor to the E class (7 series would be compared to the S class then).

BMW = For people who like to drive
Benz = Quality comfort with some performance
Lexus = Rolling isolation chamber

People often ask what's special about BMWs, which everyone who owns one understands. It can be hard to tangibly describe it, but one of the often undiscussed aspects of it are the controls: the steering, the brake, the accelerator, the shifter/clutch setup, are all precise and provide feedback far in excess of other luxury cars in their price range. It does what you tell it, it tells you what it's doing.

Unless you people live near race tracks or in the outback with no other cars or police I think the whole "driving experience" "ultimate driving machine" thing is a con. The way we drive these days in cities and multi lane highways there is precious little chance of getting anywhere near the limits of any of the cars mentioned. If you are going to throw the car about then a M series may be what you want but a run of the mill 3,5,6 or 7 or C,E or S class is designed for every day driving and is not a honed race machine despite what the ads imply.

I actually found very little difference in the handling of similar BMW, MB and Jag models and I have had them all. The only car I have owned with real track ability was the Lotus 7 but that was hardly a road car.

Of the two you have proposed the 6 series but I would add the diesel Jag XJ to the list and the CLS.

I am afraid on style alone I could never buy the current 5 or 7.

Am I missing something? You're suggesting you can afford a $70K + car, and you don't even know the basic difference between a 5 and 7 series?

I personally would not get diesel (pricey and smelly gas) and the BMW is better made these days.

I also love the 6, one of the prettiest cars on the road imho.
