What's your favorite kitchen toy?

Can be anything from a sauce pan, to a blender, to a knife.

If I had a creme brulée torch (only a matter of time) my answer might be different, but so far I'd have to say that I really like my L'Equipe RPM Blender, purchased based on the blender shoot-out in Cook's Illustrated. Pureed soups are a staple for me so I really get a lot of use out of it.

My carbon steel wok. It's such a pleasure to use every time. I've been thinking about getting an electric wine bottle opener, just for the pure gadgetry of it. Amazon has an awesome one on sale for $15 right now.

My 36" Pro Grand Thermador oven. I like to bake.

I always love flipping that switch and hearing the garbage disposal whirl around and feel the slight vibrations in the sink and counter top. It's very satisfying. Almost like firing a pistol.

Throw a couple of peach pits in that bad boy, it'll really crank up a racket.

Oh, that's a challenging one -- but how could I not cast a vote for the 48" Thermador six-burner, dual-fuel range, with its party-piece grill?

But if toy means a non-essential, gadget-like item then: Microplane FTW!

You fags with thermador's aren't allowed to rub it in. MY THREAD, MY RULES!

In 12-18 months i'll have my own place though and you can bet your ass a 48" Thermador is the first thing I'm gonna be putting in the kitchen.

edit: Besides, they hardly qualify as toys.

As I like cookies, I really enjoy my Silpat cookie liner sheet. Viva La France!

We have a Bosch food processor with more horsepower than my Subaru station wagon.

That thing is amazing. Will knead huge bowls of stiff bread dough, whip up frozen smoothies in the blender, crank out pasta, chop, grind, etc. etc.

Is that an immersion blender? If not, and you love soups, why not?

Probably have to say my Lodge Round grill press. Cast iron and at 5 lbs, works perfectly when cooking bacon to prevent curl or making pressed sandwiches. The best thing about it, and anyother castiron - Lodge product is that they are cheap as hell and will last a lifetime.

I wouldn't necessarily say that it's my favorite thing, but the food processor probably gets the most use of any gadget in our kitchen.

Indeed, bowl blenders are useless for soup. We have this one: I do most things by hand, but if anything my mandolin would be my favorite gadget.
