I'll go with Don't Worry Baby.

"Heroes and Villians." "Wouldn't it be Nice?" "Cabinessence." "God Only Knows."

Basically, for me the Beach Boys are "Pet Sounds" and "Smile." The earlier stuff is cute, but I don't reach for it very often. My two year old daughter, however, loves "Barbara Ann", because her grandmother sings it to her all the time.

God Only Knows, best song ever, etc., etc.

I know it's a traditional, but I always liked Sloop John B. Still, it's a runner up to God Only Knows.

I like your choices but they're too laid back. Beach boys is about surfing. And Surfing USA is the quintessential Beach Boys song.

"anything from Smile" should have been a fifth poll choice, but I never got a good version of the original sessions and the new version is kinda depressing to me.

The new version could be worse.

For a long time, it was easy to find old "Smile" bootlegs on the Web. When Wilson announced that he was going to complete the album, release it, and go on tour, his people must have gone after all those sites because within a few months they were all shut down.

Still, considering that they released that massive "Pet Sounds Sessions" compiliation, you'd think they would do the same for "Smile." It would make a fortune.

But maybe Wilson is afraid it would undercut the appeal of his "finished" version.

This will probably get rotting vegetables thrown at me, but I think that if you can off-the-bat narrow down a band's best songs to three (as this poll does), the band can't be all that great.

^^^ Some people might think I was being ironic, in the face of all these "best song" polls, by pretending that there were only three valid choice.

I've always been partial to Good Vibrations, whether it be the original or the Smile version.

FYI, Surfin USA is really Chuck Berry's Sweet Little Sixteen with different lyrics. Even the Beach Boys admit that. However, it is a good song. Good Vibrations is among their best. Yes, Pet Sounds is their best album. Yes, I've said before that I think it's overrated. One of their early ones that I always liked was titled simply Surfin'. I think the problem with that early stuff is that it seems dated. It seems "of a time." Less lasting appeal.
