Hair Stylist in SF/East Bay?

My hair is getting really long (down to the tip of my nose) and isn't looking quite like I had hoped.

It's thick and wavy, and at this length is "flipping out" in little half curls all over the place.

So came the decision to get it stylishly cut. In the past I'd buzz cut it but I have an oddly shaped head so I won't be doing that anymore.

So where can I go? A place where I might be able to walk in, having no clue what I want, and ask them to make it look good. I mean good. Details good. Stylish, sexy. You know what I mean, right?

Oh, there's a catch... I'd like it to be easily accessable via public transportation (BART/AC Transit/Muni, etc). Cost isn't a HUGE concern, but I'd like it to be under $ 75

Thanks!

Years ago I lived in Oakland (Grand Lake area), and before that, in Alameda. I used to go to a place called Tomo & Company on Park St in Alameda. It has the feel of those higher end salons, but is pretty reasonable in price. An Asian guy named Fred used to cut my hair; I have no idea if he is still there or not as this was over 10 years ago. He did a really good job. I googled and the place is still there. It got to be a bit much to commute from SF to Alameda for a haircut, so I eventually found a place in the city.

Thanks. Alameda is hella far and IIRC not easily accessable via public transportation.

How does this place look?

Mountain View is far, but using AC Transit's trip planner, it looks do-able (albeit an all day trip)

I really like Secret Agent Salon in S.F. It's a small, very hip salon, with great stylists. It's downtown on Bush St. near Stockton.

Go to Louis' barbershop in the Castro. A half block down Castro from market. Under 30 with tip and I've always really liked my cut.

I hate to shamelessly promote myself, but I will. My name is Zeon Kitchiner and I've just started working at the Barber Lounge. Mens' cuts with a stylist are usually $65, but I can give you 20% off if you book with me and refer the styleforum. I've been doing hair in a contemporary urban setting my whole lengthy career and have just completed a degree in anthropology so I understand cultural referents and can work with your personal style and expression. The Barber Lounge is a full service salon and spa with an old school barber shop in the middle of it, and you can get a dry cut with a barber there for between $25 for a dry cut, and $40 with a shampoo and hot towel finish. The length of your hair suggests to me that you really need a stylist cos barbers are traditionally experts in the short fades and the hot shaves. I encourage you to check out the site. We'll hook you up at the Barber Lounge.
