I'm pretty sure I know what the answers are going to be, but I'm going to ask the question anyway.
I start work at a medium-sized Northern California law firm soon, and I'm not sure whether I should wear a suit on the first day.
Here's why I'm not sure: The dress code at the firm is business casual; people wear suits to meet with clients or go to court but otherwise do not. Also, since I've worked at this firm before (when I was a summer associate), it's not like I'm going to be meeting people for the first time -- they already know me. I'll be spending the day doing HR paperwork and other orientation-type tasks.
I know it wouldn't hurt to wear the suit even when no one else will be, and normally I would default to that, but it also just doesn't seem quite right to me in this situation. It's not like an interview, and since 1) I know what the dress code is, 2) I won't be wearing a suit to work on most other days, and 3) I've worked there before, I'm not sure.
