Best high-line dark chocolate?

I want to treat myself to something nice.....quality over quanitity.

I've heard good things about Valrhona.....can anyone recommend any fine chocolate makers? Dark chocolate is my thing.

EDIT: If you guys could post some web sites that sell a variety of decent chocolate with reasonable prices, that would be great.

Best is might be more of a subjective preference but some of my favourite ones are from Michel Cluizel and Amedei.

Can these be purchased online?

I love dark chocolate. One of my favorites is by a local San Francisco maker called Poco Dolce. They make these incredible "tiles" with different ingredients and topped with grey sea salt. Amazing. But, I'm sure there are zillions of other high-quality makers out there.

I would certainly think so, at least it is possible in Sweden.

I don't know if it is "high line" or not but as a cocoa addict, I have found myself intensely loving this stuff sold by Cost Plus - 100% cocoa mass, no milk or sugar or anything else, some Ecuadorian chocolate, Vintage Plantations. Bitter of course but a very satisfying nuttiness and the finish is very pleasant. But I am not an expert, I am sure others here will have other ideas. P.s. maybe it is too cheap to be "high line"? I usually buy Valrhona Noir Amer 71% from either Cost Plus or Trader Joe's when I need a chocolate fix. Here are some sites that I've used for reference:

Michel Cluizel, Laurent Gerbaud and Dolfin are three of my favourites.

+1 for Cluizel. I order it on-line from a Chocolate shop in St Louis. I also like Vosges for exotic combinations and Payard in NY for traditional French goodies.

Valhrona from Trader Joe's is our fallback position.

Michel Cluizel are very good and complex tasting bars. I especially like "1er Cru de Plantations" bars. If you want to threat yourself you can buy all 6 different bars from this series (all grown in a different place) and do a comparision tasting.

Vintage Plantations dark chocolate bars are also very good and not too expensive.

If you ever want to try the best white chocolate in the world (IMHO) yuo can get El Rey Icoa.

I think for chocolates more or less available in the US, Cluizel is very good; domestic brands like Scarffen Berger and Jacob Schmidt as well.

In Freedom I somewhat prefer Michel Chaudun and Patrick Roger, or even Stoeckel. I also have a weakness for Debauve et Gallais, but that's more for the mythos and history of the house. French chocolate frwns all.

Pierre Marcolini in Belgium is the best I've ever had, and I hear he just opened a shop in New York. Not sure if it's available online at all. As go truffles and other candy-type chocolates, I love Neuhaus.
