3pc suit w/o tie

As Autumn rolls in I feel drawn to wearing a medium weight sb charcoal or d. brown 3pc with a solid shirt and fairly plain fronted shoes. As I'm not required to wear a tie, I won't. Kind of semi-informal . Does anyone wear this set up and what colours do you combine? Any action pics welcomed.

The tie just finishes it off, vest + jacket - tie = not a good look.

I think the look can be good, but it is one for the man of true style and not for just anybody.

I seem trecall seeing one or another Edwardian Briton pulling this off in a photograph, but it very often looks wrong.

Looks better with a tie.

It would be nice to see some pics.

Regular 2 piece suit without a tie I can see (and I like it, since I'm young ) but I have a hard time picturing a 3 piece without tie.

Seems kinda disco to me. Maybe wear a modern tie.

I agree that it looks better with a tie but I could it wear w/o tie and feel as comfortable as if I were wearing a much more casual outfit. Fact is over a longer period of time - more than 3 or 4 hours - I feel constricted/slightly uncomfortable (physically and psychologically) wearing a tie unless at a formal event, wedding etc.
Maybe a pkt square wouldn't go amiss.

If People magazine is the Bible of "style", I agree.

A tie is essential with a three piece and indeed a double breasted coat.
A single breasted coat (no waistcoat) has a blend of informality which can be coupled with the tie less look.

I've tried the look with a light gray 3-piece and several different shirts. Looked too "disco" every time. I couldn't bring myself to leave the house without a tie.

Maybe with an ascot... or a thin knotted silk scarf... or something to pull the eye up from the waistcoat.

Just not a medallion, please...
