Frye Jackson Engineer boots for about $110, and like the look a lot. However, question on fit: How loose is the ankle and calf supposed to be? The shoe size fits perfectly (once I can wedge my feet into them, damn it's a tight fit), but the ankle is extremely loose. There is about and inch or two of extra space between my calf and the surrounding boot material, and looks weird if I tuck my pants into it. Shifts a bit when I walk too, and is a little distracting to keep getting contact and separation with the material on each step.

This is my first Frye and my first engineer boot - why so flappy?

The shaft on traditional Engineer boots are large to tuck pants into. Unless you can pull of this look or ride a motorcycle best to stay away.

Slouchy ankles are a trademark style in fryes fashion line. They've been doing it a long time. My wife has a pair that look great with peg leg jeans.

If you were after a more rigid shaft look at their made in USA line, much different boot.
