Im not sure how final that decision is, but the gulf guys are pretty pissed about it.
From a pakistani (or any non saudi party), this has the potential of being a huge mess.
Pakistan has a sizable shiite minority and it has enough problems with alqaeda attacking shiites. Does it really want to send its army to fight in saudi arabias "sunni" labeled campaign and create tensions at home?
Secondly, whats the objective or exit strategy? Houthis have been persecuted for decades now and saudi has attacked them before and the previous regime sent its army (now their allies) against them for years. Pakistan is going to send a ground army to a foreign country against a group that has fought a resilient guerilla war in rough terrain for decades. Theyll kill a lot of houthis and theyll lose a lot of soldiers. And eventually pakistanis will be pissed and tired of it.
Plus theyll ruin their relation with Iran their direct neighbour
Once again saudi arabia thinks it can throw money and jihadists at a problem...Edited by alan - 4/10/15 at 4:13pm
