ethan's Musing on the Near East - Page 126

Speaking of Turkey and Iraq, shi'ite paramilitary groups with ties to Iran threatened to use force against Turkey on Wednesday unless it withdraws its troops from Iraqi territory, after a 48-hour deadline set by the government expired. "Do they have a dream of restoring Ottoman greatness? This is a great delusion and they will pay dearly because of Turkish arrogance." This is so hypocritcal in that it's ignoring the delusional dreams of their own imperial ambitions, perhaps the reestablishment of Safavid or some other such empire (incidentally headed by Turkiks)

Meanwhile, dozens of people were killed in fighting at the airport in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar after an overnight attack by Taliban insurgents while a key district in neighbouring Helmand province fell to the insurgents.

Turkey has always had direct aspirations to take Aleppo and Mosul.

Some turkish books teach that these two cities are part of Turkey

Speaking of, remember that time that a US Congressman held a PKK flag and took a picture?

Its a very interesting problem to look at.

On one hand you see communities persecuted in their countries. Shiites in Bahrain, Saudi, maybe Yemen.

Sunnis (more or less) who may feel that in Iraq or Syria.

Kurds in Turkey and Iraq and Iran.

Christians everywhere.

Arabs in Israel and Palestine.

And you think its best to give each their own nation. Then you realise this will lead to 1000 years of conflicts. Then you realise that building a multi ethnic fair nation would take longer.

Its hard to figure this out.

This is getting beyond insane, like an HBO or netflix series now

Fugitive Mexican drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán has reportedly threatened to eliminate ISIS if it continues to destroy his drug shipments to unspecified Middle East countries that go through the terrorist group’s so called “caliphate”

“My men will destroy you. The world is not yours to dictate. I pity the next son of a whore who tries to interfere with the business of the Sinaloa Cartel. I will have their heart and tongue torn from them.”

“You [ISIS] are not soldiers. You are nothing but lowly p *ssies. Your god cannot save you from the true terror that my men will levy at you if you continue to impact my operation.”

breaks my heart to say its a hoax

Quote:

An email supposedly written by Mexican cartel leader El Chapo, saying he would destroy ISIS, has been revealed as a hoax.

It was reported that Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán had 'declared war' on the terrorists in an encrypted correspondence to their leader, Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi, in response to one of his 'shipments' of cocaine being destroyed.

The story featured on cartelblog.com - a website dedicated to reporting the war on drugs - before being picked up a number of mainstream international news outlets and quickly going viral.

But a writer and satirist told Daily Mail Online that he was the source of the story and that it was a work of pure fiction.

More hot air.  The only move Iran is making is moving Qom to Najaf, Iraq, on a snails pace. Stop drinking the Saudi/Balochi kool aid.

Apparently according to @rhyme this is a hoax, however, ISIS does have a very real war on drugs.

It very well may be untrue, but the DailyFail is also source for ISIS fighters being supposedly hopped up on cocaine and possibly other drugs

there were multiple similar reports about stashes of amphetamine so I guess ISIS is not 100% united on the whole war on drugs thing

RT had an article about ISIS selling heroin. They don't like drugs being sold under their nose though, i suppose they don't like people making untaxable income.

Grand Ayatollah Al-Sistani has called on #Iraq's gov't to show no tolerance towards violations of Iraqi sovereignty re: Turkish deployment.

Significant.
