I'm loking for a specific cologne

Hi,

First I want to say hello to everyone. I was looking for cologne information and ran across the forums a couple of weeks ago.

This might sound crazy, but back in the 80s I had a friend who got into Amway. I tried one of the colognes they had and it was the bet cologne I have ever smelled. Like I said, it sounds crazy because I found it through Amway. They claimed that Pierre Bourdon created a half dozen or so colognes they had at the time. At least I think it was him. They said that he was called 'the nose' so I Googled it and his name popped up everywhere.

Polo, Joop, Paul Sebastian, and Fire and Ice are a few of my favorites. But none of them smell like the cologne I have been searching for.

I was reading one particular post where someone was looking for something 'sophisticated', here's the link
http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=33700

I've been reading about notes and classifications and I've been trying to think of a way to describe what I'm looking for. I've come to the conclusion that there is no easy way, but I thought you guys could help. From reading the posts here a lot of you seem like you know what you're talking about.

I will try to describe the cologne, it's been 20 years. It was so good I should have bought a case.

'Distinguished' is the first word that comes to mind. It's not fruity, flowery, citrus, musky, woodsy....not one thing in particular stood out. I've never melled anything close to it. The smell of it made me feel more confident. It smelled like something someone would wear to a business meeting, or an important function where one would like to project an image of 'sophistication, power, and confidence'.

I remember it lasted about 12-14 hours. I was walking around my house, and if I turned around and walked back through the same area I could get a light hint of it. Just barely there, but definitely noticeable.

If anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it. This is my first post here, so forgive me if this was a dumb post, but I've searched and it's driving me nuts. I would like to learn more about colognes and any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for any help..

Here are the fragrences created by Pierre Bourdon. Also I am not sure if the list is complete, there are only two scents from the 80s: Cool Water and Kouros. Good luck.

The Bourdon name helps narrow it down, but beyond possibly Kouros I can't think of what it might be.

Beyond Bourdon, your designation could fit about fifty different 80's classic scents. A few that come to mind (not created by Bourdon) might be Chanel Pour Monsieur or Chanel Antaeus. Puig's Quorum is another 80's classic...

Overall, I find that when I search for a scent that I remember from many years ago, if I eventually find it, it is never the same. So much in our lives change over that time and our noses change along with it. I used Chanel Pour Monsieur all through school and then lost contact with it for years. Finding another bottle, I remembered what I liked about it, but it had lost so much of its old appeal for me because I wasn't the same person as I was then (neither the original formulation of the fragrance nor the recent re-formulation).

As such, my suggestion would be to give a try to some of the amazing fragrances put out over the past two decades and find something new. You may run across that old favorite, but for the amount of searching it may require, you might find something that better "fits" with who you are now.

Finally, you may want to search at www.basenotes.net They have an excellent fragrance directory that you can search around, looking either for your long-lost scent or possibly a new one.
