Dunno. I was just browsing and got into it with the salesguy. If I do, though, the board'll be the first to know...

I only buy extended guaranties on item I can open up, put in the microwave for one second and then return. I've had no problem with those but honestly it is just a tax on the uninformed.

I used an extended warranty i got with my laptop (i bought it in 04) last year in 06. The normal 1 year included warranty just ran out and the computer was having internal problems and i got it fixed. It would've cost a lot more to have a computer repair place try and fix it and probably make up more problems and charge me a shitload. On a dvd player though? Don't even consider it. I haven't run into too many people having their dvds stop working really. As others have said, chances are the dvd player will become outdated before it stops working.

My DVD players last until I am overcome with rage for no particular reason and smash them across my roommate's face.

I sell ESPs day in day out at my job. I dont even feel bad about it. Though I will note that only ESPs and accidental plans on Laptops/Desktops and digital cameras are worth the money (also the most expensive ones!) simply because they are more prone to breaking within 2-3 years. On our accidental plans they replace the item outright if its broken. Normal service plans cover them for electrical/mechanical defect/breakdown as well as surge protection and wear and tear. Personally though I would never buy an ESP simply because I can fix about anything, especially if it was expensive (cars/computers are both natural to me). Also, one more thing, Leasing anything is a terrible idea, especially a car. The only one who wins in that situation is the dealer. You get to pay for all repairs, insurance, have to follow their rules about how many miles you can drive, cant modify the car, and in the end you have to give it back and have nothing to show for it.
