He had Rod Stewart hair. At first I thought some guy was wearing a very clever costume.

I did this at a trendy rooftop club in the Gansevoort in NYC; except instead of a diplomat it was the two tall and ridiculously expensively-dressed daughters of some Russian oligarch (I surmise). Their Russian two security guards, about 5'9 tall with thick necks and shoulders about as wide as they were tall (so it seemed, at least) -- I think they are called flatheads or somesuch, were also not amused. I didn't put the pieces together until I saw that the two dudes were wearing earpieces.

Your guy's guard probably had a gun though; don't know about these guys. One of them was packing an Amex Black Centurian card, though -- first and only time I had ever seen one was when he presented it to the maitre'd.
