A cheaper alternative might be H Freeman MTM. I believe they make something very similar for half the price.

comrade - wtf are you talking about? No padding is a relative concept? You just said there "are no current models without shoulder padding" then said the current models have a more natural shoulder than a couple years ago, well which is it?
All classic Ralph Lauren Polo model suits (besides trendy named one's) have basically ZERO padding in the shoulder (please see Oldog/Oldtrix posts in WAYWT). Ralph is famous for this specific detail. You might be thinking of Black Label or Purple Label or I don't know what. Maybe check somewhere other than Palo Alto? Matt S. is absolutely right that this is the reason someone would go to RL for made to measure. Most tailors don't do soft construction or unpaded shoulders, especially in this price range.
