No, I was there yesterday and Polo versions with my fabric level ("4") were $1600. I believe BL started in the low/middle 2's.

What's so unique about it? Nothing that I can tell. Certainly nothing a bespoke tailor couldn't do in his sleep.

You're thinking of Purple Label. I have a couple of Polo MTM suits that came out really great IMO (do a search and they should come up). They have a unique style that not every tailor can replicate, heck I've even had a few tailors flat out tell me they won't do shoulder's without padding. You go to a tailor for their style not yours. I would probably only do Polo mtm in the future at the Mansion in NYC as it seems they have the most experienced staff. Chan is really nice but it seems their prices keep rising closer to that of high-end bespoke tailors. Both are a good option.

Not all bespoke tailors can do such a natural shoulder. A padded shoulder is much easier to make. Finding a tailor who does a shoulder like that for the price of Polo MTM isn't going to be easy. A cheaper alternative might be H Freeman MTM. I believe they make something very similar for half the price.

In the same thread, "bigbris" listed his NWT Polo II/IV/etc. purchases via Ebay; most expensive suit was $620. An option.

Enlighten me, please. At least at the two Polo Shops I have checked in the Bay Area, there are no
current models without shoulder padding. Not so a season or two ago.

It's the Polo I, Polo II, Polo III (haven't seen in a few years) and Polo IV models that have no shoulder padding.

On the other hand, Bradford model shoulders are padded--more than the BL's, and not as well executed.

Accurate, and the BL starts at $1,995 for a staple fabric.

I'm the MTM specialist in my store and I've done MTM for myself as well, I'm very happy with it. For me it was great to match a fabric from 4 years ago for a pair of pants to turn a sportcoat into a blazersuit.

SG, any thoughts on BL full canvas vs. Polo less-than-full (i.e., does it matter that much to the look and feel?), and the overall quality difference--especially in construction and fabrics--between BL and Polo?

I really like my BLs but was thinking of mixing things up with a couple of Polos, which have a different vibe (natural shoulder, higher front rise, a bit more conservative) and more MTM fabric options.

Yeah, that was always my gripe with polo. You put on their jacket and the shoulders are padded up to your earlobes. I had to laugh when I was in the mansion a few weeks ago.

My problem is I'm a 36R OTR and Polo might make 1 or 2 items in that size per season, if that. If you're a more standard size then yes, deals are abundant.


They seem to be pushing those Garrison and Bradford models more recently, kinda like the Bleeker model that is no longer in production, trendy stuff that doesn't seem to last. Although, I'm not sure the Garrison even has padding as UrbanComposition has posted a few in WAYWT with very soft shoulders.
