Jack Johnson by Miles Davis (not to be confused with Jack Johnson the douche)

Waltz for Debbie is a great one. (As are the others)

If drugs are involved... Spiritualized - ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space.

My ex loved the Remy Shand album. Spritualized's 'lazer guided melodies' is even better for loving, I think.

Nina Simone is always good.

My additions: Marvin Gaye, 'I want you'; nobody knows it, but it's a great album. I'll add 'The Songs of Leonard Cohen' and also, 'Songs from a Room', both by L.Cohen. 'Closing Time' by Tom Waits is nice for a soft, drunken evening.

Considering I've been dissed mutliple nights in a rwow, I wouldn't know.

Oscar Peterson Trio's "Live at Chicago" or Donald Fagen's "Kamakiriad" are solid chocices.

Many excellent suggestions here: Getz, Bill Evans, Johnny Hartman, Chet Baker . . .

And here's one that comes with a money-back guarantee: the sound track from the seventies film "A Man and A Woman."
