Nina Simone is always good.
My additions: Marvin Gaye, 'I want you'; nobody knows it, but it's a great album. I'll add 'The Songs of Leonard Cohen' and also, 'Songs from a Room', both by L.Cohen. 'Closing Time' by Tom Waits is nice for a soft, drunken evening.
