The traditional English velvet slipper (are they also called Albert slippers?) is nice but I find the separate leather heel to be too loud. Walking around on wood floors at night I fear they make too much noise and will wake my wife, or the chappie in the flat below me.

Is there a quieter option? Probably without a separate heel, though maybe an all-rubber separate heel might be alright.

La Portegna

Has anyone tried these? Any other options to consider?

I have a couple of pairs of La Portegnas. They have a driving loafer that I like to wear at home when I'm wearing wool trousers. It's modeled after the kind of driving loafers you see from Car Shoes and Tods, but it looks more casual and at-home appropriate. Basically just a very soft loafer with nubs at the bottom.

I also have a pair of Town View Leather moccasins, which I really like. I wear those with jeans. Not that impressive when you first get them, but once they really break in and mold to your feet, they're incredibly, incredibly comfortable. Mine are the double soled ones, though they have a single sole and crepe sole as well (the second being on request only, I think). Arrow Moccasins is another option for this kind of thing.

Lastly, I have a pair of Derek Rose slippers that I wear with pajamas. I don't find them terribly comfortable, to be honest, but as least they're not worn very long at night. I find the backless slip-on style to be easier to deal with in the morning and nighttime than the Grecian style, which is what you have pictured above.

Barbara Shaum in NYC also makes nice looking slippers. I don't own a pair, as they look like they'd be better for outdoor use, but I like the idea of using them around the backyard or something. Prices are very expensive though (like $400-ish).

I read on another thread that the Derek Rose slippers are made by Draper of Glastonbury. Which style do you have? It's a shame that you don't find them uncomfortable. I was hoping to try those sheepskin ones linked above. Is the shearling lining quite hot? Are they winter-only? Should I get unlined for summer?
