Last comparison: EG 82 and Vass F

Both are the same size and width, and fit me fine (Vass only offers a standard width). F has more toe space and is also a tad wider. EG's upper is much softer after initial break in. Vass's upper requires no break in and does not stretch as much as EG. No antiquing on the Vass. Vass has lasted trees. EG shoetrees are for 82 and 888. They fit D and E widths (202 and 606 share another type of shoetree).

I love both. They are very elegant and understated, and must be seen it the flesh to be appreciated.

Very nice. Thanks for sharing those.

Now all you need is a pair of Shannons on the 82 last:

I left my boot days behind me after I left college.

Are you contemplating which to buy, looking for opinions on which to wear tomorrow or just trying to make me jealous? They are both beautiful shoes but if I had to choose one I would go Green.

I assume it was just a public service.

Thanks, Kolecho. The comparison definitely leaves me feeling that the 82 is the more shapely of the two. The F comes off looking homely by comparison.

I own a pair of F last Vass myself (boots of course!) but in that photo comparison I couldn't but help agree with you. In fact the striking resemblance of the F last to the AE Nr 5 last took me by surprise!

I had the same thought, but I didn't want to make an AE-Vass comparison publicly and risk starting some flame-attack.

Well, since I've set myself up like a sitting duck I might as well go the whole hog now. AE Park Avenue with Vass shoe trees:

Sorry Kolecho. No hard feelings buddy! BTW I'd have never been tempted to do this if you'd gotten yourself a pair of boots

You must be blind. Those AEs are far from Vass F.

If this was a computer gaming board I would risk to be called a fanboi :
but the EG beats the Vass in nearly all aspects. I prefer the last, the antiqued leather... what a beauty.

But in the end it's still a matter of taste. One can only congratulate you for owning both of them!

I prefer the toe space in F, but I like the topview of 82 more. In profile, I prefer F.

To me, the 82 is a clear winner. Vass F last looks to generic.

My vote is for the 82. The outsole on the F last is too pronounced for me.

Thanks for the comparison, Kolecho.

I think it would be interesting to see the F next to the 202 since I imagine they are nearer cousins than the F & the 82.

Both F and 82 are elongated lasts. 202 is a short last. 202's toebox looks very similar to the AE ones that Sator posted. I will make a comparison between Carmina Robert, EG 82 and Vass F when the Carminas get in.
