Forget thumbs but @Shen constantly puts up some of the best CM fits both in terms of combo and actual fit of his cloths but hardly gets any recognition

I'm going to go ahead and say what I assume everyone is thinking. The way in which Shen sometimes edits out his eyes is....uh....not conducive to a positive mental reaction.

But yes, he is a superb dresser.

In theory, I like bold stripe shirts a lot. In practice, however, I do not have very many of them. I think it's because I am not fully confident in my ability to wear them well, so I am not yet ready to make the investment.

For real? I think they're unfuckuppable factor is pretty high. They're basically the only patterned shirt like that, and all the others are way harder. Tattersall and gingham I like only occasionally, PoW and graph check shirts almost never. Then there's pindot, paisley, and other p-words that require more cool than I have managed to accumulate.

Well, aside from one micro check, I do not wear any plaids, checks, or graphs, with a tie.

That being said, maybe it is just a mental thing for me. I just find smaller scale stripes easier to work with in my brain. Maybe I should go ahead and give it a try with some bolder larger scale stripes. Let's see what the future holds.

Bold stripes on a white-shirt base are pretty versatile, but they're a long way from unfuckuppable in my book largely due to the saturation considerations. I would rate micro-graph and micro-houndstooth as easier but less versatile, i.e. a good striped shirt will go with more fits than a good micro-graph will. See Murlsquirl's fit from today.

Gingham with a jacket/tie is always too saturated IMHO.

Graph checks/tattersall: I love 'em more than most, I think. I will pick up this line of thought later....

I think a contrast between stripe and jacket color is better (cf. the Orazio Luciano fit, 5).

A first bold stripe shirt recommendation, one to wear with a navy odd jacket? Silver, brown?

I really like brown stripes with a lot of looks, especially navy as featured in #3 from Kulata's selection. That would be my first pick. Then light blue.
