Good point, and true. TDC bottles are gorgeous. Jasmin de nuit, another TDC gem, was one I never would have needed/wanted 250mls, so having the 90ml purrrrdy bottle was really nice. Osmanthus and Bois d'iris were ones I wore quite heavily (meaning way too many sprays), so I liked having the big aluminum bottle.

Kingdom puts a "smile?" Ah, euphemisms for smut come to SOTD. (haha)

I appreciate Kingdom; I even respect it. But, damn, I just can't wear it or enjoy it. I had the set once with the body cream. Imagine all the foulness of Kingdom in a body lotion. It literally smelled like creamy BO. Cumin and funk in a tube. haha given how much I like Eau d'hermes, Jicky, etc., you'd think I'd have liked it. BUT, alas...

I found the Kiehl's scents fairly boring (the oils)... I've got a bottle of the Musk, actually it's one of the first bottles I bought getting into this hobby based on Rach's rec and PhatGuido wearing it a lot a few years ago... barely touched the stuff though (edt). The PH oil is quite nice IIRC, sort of like an Azzaro PH so quite spicey. I just found 10ml for $30 too expensive for me, and the rollon format makes me think of rotting skin in the bottle...

Do you mean they're discontinuing the Original Musk?

hmmm, one of my first loves/dares when I got into the hobby. I think the trick is to apply VERY lightly, like one to two sprays max (chest and wrist). It's pretty potent stuff.

I bought it to not only push my comfort on the fragrance-gender issue, but also because it's so complex I think it takes some time to really deconstruct and understand it.

Haha rotting flesh.

They're discontinuing the perfume oils (roll-ons, dabbers), but not the EDT of musk.

Wearing musk today, and it is quite disappointing.

I will try the PH though. Thanks.

M7 Fresh is nice. I get more woody notes than the original as well. I have a small sample from the last swap box.

Today is my new reigning favorite: Chanel Sycomore.

I agreed with most of what you said about the supposed discontinued "classics," but Patou is really a special scent. I could imagine Frederic Malle releasing a scent in that vein. The little decant I got several years ago is getting very low. I wish I could have a bottle, though I wouldn't pay a fortune for one.

Another one that I think has been badly harmed by reformulation is Chanel Pour Monsieur. The original is so much rounder and fuller than the current edition. They smell superficially similar, but the experience of wearing them, especially over time, is very different.

By the way, I'm wearing Essence of John Galliano today (no Nazi). One of the great hidden bargains out there. Yes, it's a room spray, but it's still the best campfire incense scent on the market.

If you miss the old Chanel PM (and rightly so), try Tiffany for Men. Made by Polge, and with much of the very sharp chypre character. I quite like it, and it's readily available. BUT, full disclosure, I'm one of the "weirdos" who actually really likes Chanel PM eau concentree... so I may not be the best recommender for Chanel PM alternatives.

Others to try in the "Chanel PM" vein but that aren't chanel PM might be something like Pasha de Cartier, Moustache de Rochas (vintage, but easily found for super cheap).

It's almost nighttime in japan, and I'm meeting a friend for dinner. A shower and change of fragrance. I'm thinking for this evening... Chanel Coco.
