Scent/Fragrance of the Day thread - Page 541

^^^ wow, trolling IRL. I've got to try that sometime ;-) Today, all about Patchouli. Tom Ford Purple Patchouli - I guess there's patch somewhere buried in there but there's also some sort of candy fruity layer covering it up. I'm not impressed. This one was dropped out the TF collection and it's no wonder. Goes in the sample swap box. Le Labo Patchouli 24, OIL - hot dog! This is some strong stuff. I get the patch but there's also a really nice resinous or smokey layer. Someone at my office complained about the smell and I only put on a few drops. That's a keeper! Serge Borneo 1834 - there's some patch here too, but a strong syrupy coffee or liquorish note. Sort of reminds me of salty black liquorish or maybe Tia Maria liquor. Very nice, I could get used to this. That being said, there are plenty of other similar frags. I mean even A*men could be used as a substitute.

lol i did that too to a creed sa! i told him mi smelled like sean john unforgivable. he immediately called his buddy at the sean john counter and asked me to spray both on each arm. i sniffed them and after awhile i go, nope can't tell the diff lol! they were spraying and sniffing the remainder of the time until i excused myself.

MasterC and I (and friends) were looking at stuff in the frag department recently and the Creed SA marched up and opened with "so which Creed are you going to be adding to your collection today?" ...I just turned around and walked away. Wearing Un Jardin Apres La Mousson today. Scored a 200ml bottle of the Eau d'Abondance for $25!

(...!)

should have said "Whichever is the one that smells just like Cool Water."

but, truth be told, that riposte would only have come to me the following day.

I'm surprised Creed SA's would be surprised at the comparisons, or maybe they were just feigning surprise. At a local Bond No 9 counter they seem much more prepared given a cheat sheet I noticed that compares which Bonds are comparable to which Creeds.

My Creed SA story is when one recoiled in horror after I sampled Himalaya and I told her it reminded me of ben-gay Still, I didn't buy anything and she gave me a sack of samples to take with me so she must have not been that offended.

Yeah, heaven forbid your naturally-made, marked-up-beyond-comprehension-product smell like something else!!!!!

I swear, pushy, overly-dumb/ignorant salesman are such a turn off for me. My money can go elsewhere, thank you. My Creed SA example is trying to make smalltalk, talking about how most Creeds always dry-down to that signature ambergris note. She looked at me flippantly and said that that was ridiculous, and quickly grabbed her notes notecard. She was kind of surprised, saying, "Oh, I guess amberGIS is in almost everything." Then going on to explain how it's a flower native to the region of France where all the juice is produced and bottled.

I wish I could have thought of a witty comeback, but I just stood there slack-jawed.

Kind of off topic, but I remember going into a Levi's store and asking the SA what selvedge cuts they had currently. She looked at me and asked what I was talking about.

Anyways - SotD = Aventus

I've had exactly the same encounters with both SAs. Boy, the Creed SAs get indignant when you mention the Ambergris. And mentioning LVC 1947 to a Levi's SA was met with a blank stare.

And, I'm wearing Aventus today.

aparently I had HUGE projection yesterday for like 12 hours with too much Labo Patchouli oil and Ford Purple Patchouli... anyone notice the same with either one of these? today it's nothing, giving my nose a break.

That Le Labo oil is potent stuff...good deal for the price frankly. Ironic how you wore two scents with patchouli in the title, neither of which smell anything like patchouli.

Yeah, Purple Patchouli has huge projection. I've had to learn to be careful in applying it!

Purple Patchouli is my SOTD today. It doesn't smell at all like patchouli, of course. Still, it's my favorite by far in the Private Blend line. I wish they hadn't discontinued it.

Did you ever smell the Armani Privee Cuir Amethyst in the swap box? Something about Labo's patchouli reminded me of that, sort of a synthetic fruity aspect.

Slightly O/T - Le Labo will be coming out with Santal 33 at the end of the month. Also, they now sell a 3 pack of 5ml sprayers on their website, so you can get a 5ml Rose 31, Patchouli, Vetiver, or whatever for $50.
