I stopped into Macy's tonight and decided to give this a try. Very light and somewhat powdery. I could see the appeal but it's not my cup of tea.

Are you sure you tried the right one? "very light" definitely isn't how I'd describe it!

Eau de Rochas Pour Homme for me today.

Powdery, well, yeah, but after about an hour it turns into a rosemary/tobacco/costus monster. For me it treads the line between compelling and PEW...for those next three hours. Afterwards it settles in and gets respectable again.

Give it about an hour as well to let the SweeTart vibe fade.

Today: Monsieur de Givenchy, bought on the cheap. It's a classic cologne: lemon up top, with a bit of powder, and a healthy dose of musk down below. Formal but comforting. Generally though I wear this for dentists appointments.

^^ do you have the old bottle or the new "mythiques"? I have the new one...was curious if it differed from the old. I *like* it...nothing to jump up and down about, but nice and easy to wear.

It's the old bottle, black label, kind of squat, like the shape of a flask. It's powdery-lemony, with a modestly decent musk undertone. It's more "old man" than Signoricci or Mugler cologne.

Comme des Garcons Series 2: Red:Sequoia

Great Cedar scent at first. The dry down is even more impressive; I find it complex, subtle and therefore more accessible. This is a relaxing scent for me.

This is the one I tried:

I never got that second phase Thomas. It just went from powdery to slightly less powdery. Today I'm trying a sample of TDC Rose Poivre.

I found the costus in Lauder to be overwhelmingly strong.

Yeah, that first wearing, I read Turin's review a few times, went up to the counter, sprayed it on, gave it a sniff and bought it right then. Got to the car, still pleasant. Got back to the office...HOLY COW WHAT HAPPENED? Three hours of powdery rosemary/tobacco/costus, leading to a dull sort of sniffing/gacking ritual that I repeated far too often. Eventually it faded into something pleasant again. BTW - Dane - I'm pulling together a review of this one and it should hit your inbox in a day or so.

BTW - speaking of sniffing/gacking rituals...Lutens Oriental Vetiver is profoundly gack-tastic. Revolting, though Nathan swears that it turns pleasant after around 6 hours.

Also on tap for reviews:
Tauer Orris
Signoricci
