Scent/Fragrance of the Day thread - Page 377

Mentioning Burberry London got me thinking -

I've noticed they've taken London out of a lot of places I've picked it up (Nordstrom, during my wife's Sephora visits, etc...) and had heard from a few clerks that the line had been discontinued.

Anyone confirm or deny?

Put this on about 5 hours ago and it's settled into a rich, creamy woodsiness. The spice is gone but I don't care cause it still smells great. Overall an excellent frag, if not a bit TOO sophisticated for me at 25. But so is Vintage Tabarome and I wear that all the time.

BdP = highly suggested for smelling like a cultured aristocrat.

For my money, Chanel PM > Creed BdP, but you can't really get it around here any more, and the foreign-market PM isn't quite as good anymore. =(

BdP is my scent. Nothing else has quite done it for me, and besides, Her Blondeness has become addicted to it. So imagine my chagrin when the girl at Barney's in Ginza told me Creed had stopped making it. Fortunately, I chanced upon the Creed store in New York and the rep said they weren't discontinuing it. Bought a bottle on the spot. Much better spray action to it than what I was getting in Japan.

Chanel PM sounds like something I might like to try, but are you saying the stuff I get in Asia is going to be inferior?

Green Valley and half a dozen others are being retired, but BdP is too good a seller to discontinue. There's a new one not yet released called Woods and Spices which is supposed to be an updated BdP for the younger set.

DSquared Wood today (the "regular one" - not the bold or summer variants)

By the way, am I the only guy here who likes the smell? I seldom hear anybody post about it.

Glad they're still making BdP: it hurts to have to replace what works so well.

Re: Chanel PM - I'd heard that the recent IFRA regulations regarding oakmoss, et al, were going to decimate the likes of Chanel PM and Mitsouko - forcing reformulations and synthetic substitutes - so pretty well any of the current production anywhere won't be as good as it was pre-IFRA. That said, I have roughly a liter of Chanel PM from the 80's, so I'm not concerned about getting more.

What I found in Cancun last week was a good approximation, if a bit thin and dry, but at least they still carry it: I cannot find the 'regular' Chanel PM in the US at all. If you find any in Asia, it's likely to be the green juice which is fine, but you'll no doubt find BdP to be superior. PM me if you want to try the 80's version.

today, btw: Lubin Idole from the swap box. This is damn good and makes up for the abomination that was Tommy Bahama from yesterday.

Also yesterday: L'Occitane Vetyver - tried on a lunchtime, really heavy woody-spicy on application, drydown was fantastic...the next morning.

Sampling Bond No 9 New Orleans today. Smells to me exactly like a blend of New Haarlem and Chinatown.

Surely we can find something better than Tommy Bahama?

the Tommy Bahama I tried the other day was quite vile. Actually, I detest the whole idea of Tommy Bahama, but that's another story.

today...encouraged by the L'Occitane Vetyver I went with the Vetyver Haiti again, plus the Bay Rum with a Twist. Why don't I wear this more often?

That's an understatement!

Are you a guy? If so, it must take a lot of confidence to wear Youth Dew. I'm not shy about wearing feminine fragrances, but I wouldn't wear that.

Une Rose (Frederic Malle) for me today.

What do people think about Hermes' Pamplemousse Rose? I'm thinking of buying a bottle at the duty free store either when I return to Incheon from Kansai Airport or when I go back to JFK from Incheon.
