I'd put it closer to CdR than Bandit, in that it is a stinky leather chypre that is very, very seamless. It's by Paul Vacher, who also did Miss Dior... and I see the common trend between the two as a perfectly blended combo of animalic and floral notes.

Bandit I find to have a clash of elements to create something surprising/shocking... which Diorling doesn't have.

Now that we're talking about it, I think I'll wear CdR on my left and Diorling on my write for a sniff-n-compare.

Edit; and while of course the vintage juice is superb... I also like the currently available Les Creations one as well. It's sacrilege to say, but it's still a nice scent hardly "modernised" to the point of dilution. The new juice still stinks...

hey folks, can anyone who has gotten something from sultan pasha shipped to the US report on how long it took them? i got a shipping notice back on the 9th. i asked him via email if there was tracking but got no response--it sounds like he got overloaded this summer w/ samples and such.

Not US, but I ordered some samples for Sultan and (from memory) it took about 5 weeks from order to receipt in Australia.

There was something recently on Kafkaesque about Sultan being unavailable for a few weeks due to family commitments - I think it was in the review of Tabac Grande

Jo Malone Black Cedarwood & Juniper today. Nice, spicy, and well blended. Not a masterpiece; like so many newer scents they are "good," but not the superlative experiences of the great noses. Worth a small bottle.

I am wearing Lumiere Noire as my SOTE.

Been enjoying AdP's Colonia Assoluta for summer. Any other AdP lines worth checking out for fall? Leather, Oud, Quercia, etc?

I've always like the Intensa the best out of the original 3.

That being said, actually I really really liked their newer line, particularly the Oud and Leather. I didn't like the Amber and there's one other with a weird name I'm forgetting. I know there are a million Ouds out there but I highly recommend the oud and also the leather scents, they're different from everything else and I think pretty solid.

Thanks! I'll check out both the Oud and Leather.

Diaghilev. There's not much to say that hasn't been said a million times. It's an old-fashioned opulent floral chypre of the kind that no one makes anymore. It is very nice, but I wouldn't think of buying a full bottle.

IT's been ages since I wore Shalimar EdT, so today I pulled out my gold recharge bottle. The standard, easily available one. Even in this form it's incredible. I defy anybody to try this one without the "old lady" psychological association and think it's overly feminine. If you wear Tom Ford's "darker" stuff, I say just try it.

SOTE is La Fin du Monde. I say this almost every time I wear this, but it's always better than I remember.

We should start some "challenges" to try unexpected scents.

For example, I challenge to try Shalimar, or Mitsouko.

What others do you challenge to try?

Ohhh, I have bottles of both of those I almost never wear... but I'll retest them now that you mention it.

My challenge is about counter seasonal wear. For example it's summer and I sprayed on Dior's Leather Oud and it was beastly, delicious and lovely but clearly it was way to hot for it and I was in full bloom for hours and hours as I went through the subway, busses, etc. I think with a single spray, some of the heavy fall/winter scents would be interesting to wear in the heat and vice versa.
