Sultan Pasha Incense Royale today.
The similarities with Montecristo by Masque are striking, especially a couple of hours in. The magnificent vanilla however completely takes the edge off and makes it a much more pleasant, well rounded perfume. I'm guessing it doesn't have hyrax but there's definitely a parallel between whatever is in it giving the animalic side (aged oud?) and the hyrax in Montecristo.
It's been a few more hours and the drydown is very dusty. More so than I remember. The vanilla is mostly gone and the result smells a bit like concrete on a hot summer day.
I layered Monsieur de Givenchy initially and it was a lovely combination, the SP giving MDG some depth, closing the distance and breaking down the formality. I've seen many Basenoters adding civet, ambergris or oud to mainstream reformulations to give them depth again (civet in Jicky is apparently quite something). I can absolutely see why.
