Thanks. I frequent there but I've never done this. Is it worthwhile / good to use?

Here was  the perfect balance of pleasant and challenging. Unfortunately it went downhill after this (3+ hours) and the 'cowpat' notes you describe really dominated. It became a skin scent at 5 hours, at which point the fecal notes were replaced with pleasant but boring warm wood notes

Ha, so it finally arrived in 'Straya! Did you have any issues with customs? What was the total time between order and him acknowledging sending it; and between sending it and receiving it?

I've decided that on Roudnitska 2D model of skilful vs pleasant, SP's attars sit mostly high on "skilful" but rarely on "pleasant". They are complex beasts rooted in the past and maybe the richness of the ingredients is too much for my poorly trained and little experienced nose, much as I remember being overwhelmed by my first French haute cuisine lunch. As a result, I don't know how often I'll wear them at this point. Some are more wearable than others.

SOTD was Cabochard. I got fed up with the plastic applicator thing so I just poured some on my fingers and liberally spread it. Still very little projection and it was gone by the time lunch was over. I guess Cabochard will remain a "home" scent to be enjoyed when I'm not going out. I wore Aramis yesterday and whilst it was initially great as usual, the oakmoss does take on a slightly mouldy association in the tropical heat.

SOTD: Acca Cappa White moss - for my errands during the day.

Got a hold of a AdP Quercia sample. Apparently released just a few days ago. Interesting spring / chilly summers cologne concentree but more heavy than typical summer colognes, lots of tonka, bergamot and cardamom.

Im thinking of picking up Diptyque - Oud Palao as my first "real" oud. Really liked it but they didnt unfortunately have any samples, so another time. Any ouds similar to this I should also try?

Tried it a while ago just on a spray card becuase I had heard of it. I think I got a sample from MiN a while back and will rummage around and see if I can find it. A few winners in the Montale lineup but it's like looking for a needle in a haystack.

You saw my reply above right? As for similar to that one, nothing that comes to mind for me that's really quite close. TF Oud Fleur maybe but I don't personally like it much and I think it might lean more fem side.

Yes and many thanks for that post! I think I will have to order an oud sample pack to get really into it. But oud palao was so good I might just have to pick it up tomorrow. Its like 108usd for 75ml edp here and I have some points so I can get 20usd off of that, feels like a bargain to me.

I know you're in Philly, but if you ever get to NYC there are a bunch of options. Aedes and MiN in Manhattan are both great as is Twisted Lily in Brooklyn:

Aedes has a great sample service (online only) and they usually throw in a couple of extras too:

I have a black-tie gala tonight at which I will be wearing Plum Japonais. So I decided to wear it during the day as well. One of the best from the TFPB line.

For NYC there are quite a few good shops... I have been to Aedus many times and usually get rather standoffish service so I don't go there any more. I regularly check out MiN, Osswald which hasn't been mentioned yet, and then there are a few other places like Bergdorfs and Barneys that carry a lot of good stuff too. With Bergdorfs, not that you need to go to the womens store downstairs and Barneys has a newish facelift with several almost hidden rooms so walk around. But yeah, between those 3 niche and 2 high end dept stores you've covered most of the stuff. There are randoms like CO Bigalow, right near Aedus anyway that has a few items, and then if you're out in Williamsberg, maybe check out Christopher Brosius's place.

In Philly, Boyds has a good selection of Creed and Amouage. They charge retail, so it's best for sampling rather than buying.

Today I'm wearing Masque Russian Tea - I'm growing to like this one since I learned to do a quarter spray. This stuff is strong and very, very long lasting.

Insta-loved that one. I'm going to work through my decant but I'm pretty sure it's on my to buy list.

Thanks I get up to NYC once in a while. I just found MiN online last night and it looks like a pretty cool place.
