Today with beautiful weather: Eau d'Hadrien

I don't recall you wearing that before. Do you like it? I find that I like it, but not enough for it to become a regular in my rotation.

I've been wearing Nuits d'Hadrien for years but got a sample of Eau the other day and wanted to spray a shitload on me since it was so nice and warm recently. It's complex for an uber fresh perfume but I still like Nuits better - well, they actually shouldn't be compared to each other.

p.s. did anybody ever try Mario Valentino Ocean Rain?

And WAIT, before you say, "Good god rach do you have a fever?" keep in mind that this is Roudnitska's final scent. I have no idea why Mario Valentino bought or commissioned a Roudnitska scent, but alas... "noses" the world round have hidden supplies of this one because of the MAN'S hand in it.

I'm just wondering what it's like beyond what I've read elsewhere. Any SOTDers gave it a sniff?

I never have but it sounds interesting per Fragrantica.

Today, Cuir de Russie in warm weather

I love the balance between the clean and chilly iris and the more "dirty" leather notes in this. The drydown is so creamy as well. I'll have to try the extrait at some point, but I get pretty good longevity and sillage from the current edt.

^Good choice! CdG of any kind is always worth a sniff.

I'm going out tonight with a bit of a rarity... Dior Dune Extrait. This is a scent we've ALL heard of, but I'm going to wager none of us have worn. It's a shame, though, as it's quite a unique scent. I think they've gotten rid of all but the EdT, but in any case it's worth a sniff on a warmish spring/summer day.

Anyway, sunny but slightly chilly/cool day... so absolutely perfect for Mitsouko EdP (current version.) As I said before, for a reformulation it's not bad. They kept the top the same and it's not until the drydown that you can tell the difference, and even then it's only subtle. Like a lot of reformulations with synthetics or altered florals or oakmoss... it has a slightly dryer, dustier feel than the older ones wet/rich feel. still, though, it's not extreme and Mitsouko in any form is worth the $$$.

Interesting to hear your description of the differences in the reformulation. So far, that's all I've smelled, and I'm afraid I'll ruin it if I get somehow get my hands on the vintage, but maybe the differences are not that great. I really love the edp. I'm thinking I also really like Jicky. I've tried the edp twice now. Yes, the civet does start off strong, sort of like in Shalimar edp, then it dries down into a gorgeous skin-scent that reminds me of shalimar and habit rouge in some ways. I can't tell how much it's projecting though, but I didn't see people walking away from me, so probably not too strong. Of course, that was only 1 spray

Today, testing 10 Corso Como which is supposedly awesome. My first impression was fresh shellac followed by musty woody dill incense. feh.

Well, my daughter and I liked Un jardain en Mediterranee so much that we decided to buy my wife a bottle for Mother's Day.

Today we have an outdoor graduation party. I'm going with Carven Vetiver, the 2009 formulation. I know this doesn't get a lot of love over at basenotes, but it has a citrus opening that settles into a really dry and earthy drydown that I love. I prefer it over Geurlain and Tom Ford's versions because it is darker and more complex than the others, but that may be that this was my first vetiver.

Where can I find samples of Jicky? Is it carried in the larger department stores like Nordstrom or Lord & Taylor?

I don't like this scent. I think Parker tried it about a month ago and haven't heard any other followup from him on this, but to me it smells like a poorly formulated oud creation with kind of a fermented staleness.

But I hope you like it. :p

They have testers at Nordstrom, where you can fill as many bottles as your conscious allows. I find Jicky to be an amazing scent, considering its date of birth.

For me today I'm wearing Geo. F.Trumper Sandalwood - citrus and sandalwood combined as a good casual spring/summer sandalwood cologne.

You've got a better Nordstrom than we've got in STL! None of our local retailers--including Neiman and Saks--have Jicky. It is absolutely worth a try, though. CodPiece, you can buy samples online from Surrender to Chance, The Perfumed Court, Luckyscent, etc. That gets expensive if you do it a lot, but if you can't find the fragrances you want locally, it is a great way to get access to things.

Pure Malt Update: Word on BN is that there's going to be a re-release in fall. It will probably be another limited release. I remember HORNS found a tester of this a while ago and there was some discussion about it. FWIW, I think it's a very good fragrance. It doesn't live up to the hype from the online fragrance community, but really there's no fragrance in the world that could. I think it's definitely worth checking out.

Pre-shower: Dior Eau Noire. I admit, I found the immortelle too overpowering today.
SOTD: Diptyque Eau Rose. Wonderful stuff.

Speaking of Nordstrom, planning on raiding some samples today on a trip up to SLC. In the meantime, going to be testing Chanel Antaeus for the first time today.

About the Deneuve parfum from yesterday, I think it smells a little similar to Parfum des Merveilles by Hermès -- but I have worn PdM just ones, so take this with a grain of salt. The drydown reminded me a little of Mr. Taylor's shampoo (pic see spoiler), quite weird. But overall it's pretty decent.

SotD: Caron - Bellodgia parfum. Good. Reminded me of Tabac Blond, just a little less on the tabacco side. Close to the skin.
SotN: Prada les exclusives parfum - No. 9 Bedouin. I can't really describe the notes, so I'll post what fragrantica says. Bitter orange, styrax, benzoin, vanilla and musk. I'm just .5-1 hour in, but so far I can say that these cover it (although I don't really have a clue what styrax and benzon really smell like). Anyhoo, it has a very similar vibe like the No. 10, although they smell differently -- don't know whether they're from the same nose, but they've done a good job to create a "unique" series of scents (edit: according to parfumo.net, they've all been created by Daniela Andrier, so this might explain the same characteristics). The Prada exclusives are a pretty different take on the orientals I know. I like this one a lot! If you ever order samples from STC, grab one. It's not expensive for parfum, and it's unique, as far as I can tell. I'll comment tomorrow on the drydown. And yeah, it smells well crafted and of good ingredients.

Does anybody know how much they are sold for (if they're actually sold) in Prada's boutiques?

Re: Antaeus - definitely getting some major Bois du Portugal vibes from this one. Ack - wish I knew out was so strong before a fairly liberal application.

Drydown is great, too. Vanilla, styrax, musk and something rougher to break up the sweet-/balminess. Very smooth yet a little rough to avoid boringness. One of my favorite scents so far.
