I can't stress to you how much of a great deal I think this Al Ood is. Do I think it's real agarwood extract? Absolutely.

The L'Artisan?

I scrubbed off the Rose Barbare and replaced it with Bois 1920 Kimono Rose. Now I feel better.

Sorry, no the one I received today - the "Oodh Agar Perfume" that also read "Al Ood" on the side of the box it came in. Check the link out I posted above.

Are you rach's evil roommate coming back to torment him some more?

This topic has probably been talked about to death but it is new to me and maybe others. I bought a bunch of fragrances in 2003 while in Europe. Somehow the box got put away in a back shelf and I just discovered them. One was a Creed, one an Aqua de Parma and another a Sandelwood private label. I thought they smelled Ok, but I put them on and my wife thought they were horrible. It never dawned on me that a fragrance would go bad.

I went down to Nieman Marcus and tried a new test container of the same Creed and Aqua de Parma. Sure enough, there was a big difference. All the subtle elegant scents were gone in the older bottles.

So, I learned a lesson. Buy a fragrance and use it up. Don't let it sit around for too long.

Anyone else have this problem?

I have a several bottles that are definitely older than 2003, and they're all fine. If you store them away from light and heat (especially light I'm led to believe) they last for decades. They might show some effects of age, especially in the top notes, but nothing too drastic.

These were away from light and heat and tightly sealed. That was what surprised me.

Could be any number of factors, but also citrus-heavy scents tend to go first; they are the lightest notes and will disappear first in a bottle gone "bad." As for WHY they went bad, can't say without much more info, and ultimately it doesn't matter so much.

BUT, I'm another who has some decades-old bottles still in perfect shape... but I've also had some that went "bad" and there definitely is no mistaking a "turned" scent. It's bad, bad, bad.

To TPS and L'inc... ain't no jokin' matter about Habit Rouge. Yuuuuuuuck! :)

Yep... I paid 25$ or so for a 0.2ml sample of AgarAura. All I can say is that it's definitely good stuff.

Maybe this oud is from "cultivated" oud? Or is it no pure oil, HORNS?

Oh, lawdy no it's not "pure oil" but an oil with oud in it. Now what is oud and how does it go from being a rotten wood to going up our nose? I was under the impression that it was a resin but may be wrong.

Some scents just don't last especially long. I've had a few go bad on me, but I've also got a fair number of 30-year-old bottles that are in fine shape.

KISS Him. (That is the name of the fragrance I am wearing today. It is not meant as a command.)
